I wish I had access to a CNC machine then my life would be complete. BishopX this is impressive work keep it up. And congrats on making it into the Elite Section of the 405th.

AGAIN, I miss the juicy stuff! Ahahahaha!

Besides, if anyone thinks that Microsoft doesn't already know about the 405th, they need to put down the crack pipe... ;)

All good Bishop, dont worry bout the pidly stuff, Im sure theres quite a few of us that have your back, you all keep on trucking doing what you love to do, We all enjoy the progress. Personally i just wish i was that good lol. Maybe one day... i will :p.
Side note.. the Magnum looks awesome, Keep up the good work and congrats on you guys reaching Elite status

I'll tell you what..... It's really not that we are good. It's embracing the processes. It sounds cheesy but hear me out. I'd love to start a thread later that shows others how we do certain things.

Don't stick to one fashion of building. Sculpt, machine, laser cut, grind, etc. Use everything you can. I used chisels, files, sand paper, bondo, clay, styrene, rubber mat, CA glue, etc. on this helmet. Many people will use only clay to make something. I won't say it's a mistake but I will say that there are many processes available to build things. Be open minded and use the best tool for the job.

That DOES IT! Noble whatever, you're gone, no more, BANNED!

Slavefive, behave!

Everyone else that this applies to, check your egos and greediness, this will not go down like it did 2 years ago, GOD I hate cleaning up this nonsense!

Everyone who has been sweet and encouraging, thank you... where's my darn mop, ARGH!

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!!!

Glad you guys decided to bring this project back - your work was/is an inspiration. Please don't let the misguided rantings and ravings of a few maladjusted n00bs get you down. Through you we get a birds-eye view of the real deal, the holy grail of professional propmaking and anyone who can't appreciate that needs to be shown the door.

Having seen some of these pieces in person (older work) I can't wait to see where this ends up.

Welcome Back and thanks for sharing!

Obviously, labor is not being factored in here but I'd say after silicone molds are added with raw materials to make the masters, We are talking about $5000usd. This does not include casting the armor in the end. Some of the armor with be rubber, some will be rotocast.

This!

I know I've learned some really useful techniques by seeing how you're doing things. It's great to have you guys back.

I have laid out ground rules for this thread in the first post. Wasting our time with bad behavior or not reading posts hurts everyone, so just use your brain and be nice.

It seems like people who are commenting now are pretty respectful to all members on the forum and I love you :) You guys are the best!

:p I pay attention and like to read lol, I have a copy of Maya and 3DS max 2011, but my system wont support them so i got Blender till i can get a rebuild on my system. The models look very clean, i mean so good it looks like a photo. I wanna reach thru my monitor and touch em lol. Anyways Im glad problems were fixed and the thread is back to normal. Cant wait to see more. Happy crafting :)

It's a shame this was neccessary.

Either way, I'm looking forward to see more! With the professional background, this is like one huge behind-the-scenes special for me - and I love behind-the-scenes specials! :)

Ohhhhh bummer on the system :( To be honest, I'm still using Maya 2009 for my modeling. Maya 2011 has some serious problems with Nurbs modeling, and since I also do Broadcast Motion graphics, and Nurbs is such a crucial part of that workflow, I stayed with 2009. I used to use Max, that's another great program to learn. The modeling for me, isn't as intuitive as Maya, but I Maya was my first program back in college, so I naturally prefer that way of modeling. I also am learning Cinema 4D for my broadcast work, it intergrates with After effects a lot better than Maya. I'm not crazy about the modeling for C4D, but again that's just my hang up because I'm so used to Maya. C4D actually reminds of Max in the way its Modeling system is set up :) And C4D has an amazing rendering system!

I saw you also had Zbrush :) That is probably the best Hi Poly sculpting program. I tried to be all gung ho with Mudbox, and I used it first, but after I got Zbrush, well, it was all over. You can just hammer out stuff much fast and customize models better in Zbrush with Zspheres. and their Sub Tools system. Mudbox isn't bad by any means i just like Zbrush's functions a lot more. And Zbrush isn't really a traditional "3D" program, you'll need some bridge knowledge going from a sculpting program when you're ready/ need to take your model from Zbrush to which ever production enviornment your in. Best thing ot do is just play with any program and don't let it intimidate you. The skill never chnages, just names of the tools in the programs :)

Im in the learning process of zbrush and blender. Im going to start with something small till i get used to it. Currently watching tutorials and whatnot. and playing around with them to "learn my way around. :) Im having a blast tho. I will say this thread is what inspired me to get into 3D modeling. I have been doin CG art with Poser pro and Daz studio's, But when i saw this thread i was like WOW this is amazing. Then it was all over im hooked. If anyone wants to PM me i will give you a link to see some of my art lol. But i can only hope that one day i can be as good as you all. -claps-

Aw, I'm flattered we have inspired you! I think its great you're just diving in, it's the best way to do it! And I still watch tutorials too! It's an ongoing learning process, and I also have goals I hope to reach :) And yes if you are comfortable with it, share some work :)

Stormy is another great 3D artist! I didn't want to answer for him, though I think he will also have some great insight to add if/when he can :)
