I’m editing the post with updated pictures so you all dont have to scroll down so far to see progress.

Hello everyone! As the title says, I’m making a Reach style ODST armor out of aluminum sheet metal. There’s a lot of work fabricating and welding this armor together and I think it’s coming together very well. I have most of the upper body done and slowly getting parts of the lower half too.

Let me know what you think in the comments!

I mean there's this one in the Armory Halo 3: ODST - UNSC ODST But you said you looking for Reach files right?
Yeah, reach files preferably but I guess there’s no rules to what I can and can’t do, huh? I started this out as a mix of H3 ODST and reach but now I'm leaning more towards a Reach build. Still pretty much designing it as I go, not really a final image in mind.

There’s a lot of work fabricating and welding this armor together and I think it’s coming together very well. I have most of the upper body done and just finished the thighs and currently I’m redesigning some elements of the armor such as how the chest plate is now going to be three independent parts that hinge off the middle plate for better maneuverability and comfort. I’m struggling to find a good template for the trooper/ODST style vest, right now I’m just using an old airsoft vest with loops that I can attach the armor to but I’d like to make this a little more accurate with a new vest and still be able to use the one I have for additional armor and accessories. Does anybody have templates for the trooper/ODST vest that I could use?
The ODST plate carrier in Reach is the Army/Marine one with the ODST chest plate slapped on top.

Yes, I’m wondering if anybody has those templates lol. All I have are in-game references
Both of these Armory entries have a little different approach but both reach similar results.

I love everything about the idea of metal being used for armor. I've no experience with aluminum, outside from a cold drink on a hot day.
I look forward to seeing your progress! Keep it up!

Thanks for the responses everyone! Here’s a WIP of the new chest plate and like I said it’s now three separate parts that I’m going to have hinge off the middle section so it’ll be able to bend when I reach over my chest and not get in the way. This is probably how the armor is supposed to function if ODSTs and Spartans were real considering the chest plate is so wide on their torso. I’m still working on attaching details and then I can get it to function properly.

Definitely watching this to see how it all turns out.
Your metal work on the chest plate looks sooo good! :D
Having that extra movement helps so much later on, very cool idea with the hinges.

Looks awesome! What metal are you using (titanium is a little expensive I guess)? and how's the weight?
I’m using 3003 aluminum sheet metal of varying thickness from .063, .090, and .125 for the bulk of the armor and then 6061 aluminum plate for the thicker details. So far, not very heavy but definitely has an authentic heft to it. Though not too much where I can’t move lol. If I could afford it or had scrap titanium to use, it would be 60% HEAVIER and welding it would be a trickier process.

Getting some painting done until I get back to work tomorrow and start fabricating the ab plate and butt plate. Still trying to figure out how I’m going to make the trooper vest so that’ll be in the works later on.

EDIT: thanks for posting those vest templates :) not sure how I want to approach making it just yet but we’ll get there. Much work to do on just about everything but I’ll post updates.

The new chest plate works better than I expected for the most part. When crossing my arms over my chest, I thought the wings would fold outwards but turns out my tactical vest pushes out under the center plate and the wings actually bend inward if that makes sense. So I get MORE mobility for my arms and that’s exciting.
oh my god. this is amazing, could'nt you technically use this in the military, If I see you in a war than good luck to you:lol:

UPDATE: ab plate, codpiece, and thigh plates mounted. Still playing around with how the ab plate and codpiece hang on the armor and around the belt. Next on my list is the butt plate and combat knife then I’ll be done filming for this video. Making good progress but still so much work to do.
