Ok, Mk VI is getting its much needed love these days! Inspired by looking over at Carpathia's build, I picked up on his technique for putting down mat board and bondo-ing around it. My chest is from a LD file, so I need to add as much detail as I can get! I started off using mat board for the "H"'s on the back:
But, after removing the mat board, I decided to give more depth so I cut some EVA foam into the shapes and put those down. I originally glued down the mat board with E6000 and added a little duct tape "tab" so I could pull it back up. With the foam, I just put it in the existing groove and pushed down with one hand while spreading bondo with the other - gave me the depth I was looking for!
On the front part of the chest I just laid down the bondo thick around where the buckles go and am sanding them to shape:
And for the top "vents" I used foam cut outs again. Just held them in place long enough to get some bondo down, waited till it started to cure and pulled them out:
I whittled away some of the excess with a razor blade while it was still "rubber-y". I am starting to get to a point that I am getting the bondo/hardener ratio correct and know just how much time I have to put it down before it isn't usable anymore
In other news, I realized that I cut my inner thigh padding too short on the ends, so those are being re-done. So, I'm using the old foam that already has plasti-dip on it to make the "vents" down the middle of the back:
Still much more to come - stay tuned!
