But yeah, I find that fiberglassing first works better for me. Don't want to risk warping the helmet with too much resin ya know? And crap, have you looked outside today (around 4pm till uh... now)? Damn rain! Always holding us back to finish!
Yeah, and what's worse is that I left my can of resin outside and now it's all rusty, but I'm sure the resin itself is fine. I'm only putting on a thin coat at first, for some support, then fiberglassing, then another layer of resin, then Bondo. I have to get my hands on a visor, too...

there's a local motorcycle shop here in augusta on washington rd and peach orchard rd that usually have em. i'm not sure if you've been here, but if you have a local motorcycle close by, check there to see if they got a visor.

There's one right up the road, it's owned by someone my grandma knows, but I'm not sure if he has any visors that would work. What's the name of that shop?

Hey Pooper quick question. Which HJC mirrored visor did you get? Because I am about to order some and I am not sure which size is best for the Mark VI Helm. Thanks :D

@ seno: the shop is called street & trail motorsports, and it's on washington rd. and that's where I get mine. the owner at your local shop should be able to order them I think. some shops do and don't.

@ soulless: any standard visor should work, but here's the model number to the ones I have...

HJC
Model: HJ-07

hope this helps you guys!

I'm going to be working on the visor in the morning. I'll post my update as soon as I can. thanks for the comments everyone! :)

Okay! I'm please to say that I manage to cut the gold visor with success! The double visor effects looks great! I HIGHLY recommend this method... I would like to thank Sean Bradley for his awesome tutorial and Jedistumpy for his advice. They really helped out alot!

Here's some pics. Keep in mind the helmet is not done, and the visor is not secured in the helmet. Also, the visor is really dirty (finger prints, smears, etc).

But first, here's some pics of the weathering... I don't know if you all can see them or not.

Here's the visor. Taped so I know where to cut...

Me wearing the helmet with the visor taped in. Keep in mind it's not secured in yet and the visor is dirty.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to clean the visor and secure it in the helmet soon. Tell me what you all think! I love to hear comments for ya! Thanks for the support! :)

Looking pretty nice, Pooper. I noticed though, that on your second layer that you cut out spaces for the temple pieces (the parts normally in the lower back corners of the visor in front of the quadruple raised detail pieces), but you don't have them on your helmet. Will you be adding them?

YEAH!!! Alright the Dub-Visors turned out great! the pic with the painters tape on it was exactly what I was talking about! And those are super gold visors you got there. Great Color! I also like how you added the side visor "dents" buy just using the visor.

Question back at the bondo stage: What did you use to fill in the cardboard edges (where the corrugated part is) Bondo or FB resin maybe?

Looks great! You really got it done in good time!

Looks great man!! See, you got all worked up nervous about doing your visor for nothing!! :p Again, great work!!

Hmmmm. Awesome...simply awesome. :D ohhh ohhh I see you're old armor's feet lol hehe :D

Nyway, nice painting work Pooper! the sratched silver effect is all on the right places. And that visor is great, gald it turned out so well for you pooper :D

I agree, the distressing you did came out fantastic! and the double visor effect is well worth the effort. Your helm looks fantastic!

Thanks guys!

@ mr oreo: ah ha! I was wondering when someone would notice that. I notice that on some helmet builds for the MVI, some members tend to have that piece outside of the visor, when in fact it should go into the visor. A side visor dent as Jedistumpy puts it. I left those pieces off on purpose, so that I may either ad them in later, or just paint it in with black, to give it the proper effect.

@ soulless: Thanks man! :D Waiting to see how your new helmet turns out too!

@ Jedistumpy: Thanks Jedi! Your advice helped wonders. Behold the power of asking a Q&A member questions and reading stickies! LOL

To answer your question, I used only FG resin over the cardboard. Works well. Of coarse, I used some bondo, to help hide some minor mistakes. :p

Another questions Jedi... on the inner visor, do you saw off the sides to give yourself some room in the helmet, or do you just leave them there?

@ mks81: Thanks! Yeah, I was super nervous working on the visor... but it came out good!

@ DYSTORTED INC: Thanks bud! :)

@ Glennz: Thanks glennz! Glad you like it :)

@ centerside: Hey, thanks! I'm keeping an eye on your thread as well centerside! Sorry if I don't post much. The only time I really can is at work. :cautious:

@ dmage dame: Thanks! And yes, the double visor effect is worth it.
