But anyhow I will improove my protection since I plan to go ahead with building and I don't want die trying to ;)

Well, you aren't going to die instantly. You'll only suffer nerve damage, maybe get cancer or lose a few senses, that kind of stuff. Nothing immediately life-threatening :)

Edit: Forgot to actually write down most of my answer...

About the gloves: I know for sure that epoxy contains substances that (unlike most of the liquid) will penetrate thin gloves in a matter of minutes. I don't know about polyester resin, because the gloves are something that I took a little lightly, too. At first, anyways. As I said, some materials are very sensitive to solvents. Nitrile will swell after a while, for example, and become very weak penetrable in the process.

And about the two open doors: Some airflow would change the situation, of course. If the room were completely closed, the fume concentration would continuously increase - to the point where certain filters aren't sufficient any more or your eyes start burning.

Nothing immediately life-threatening :)
aaaah, in that case :p

I'll guess I'm out buying some extra stuff during the next hours so my next session will be more health-saving. About the gloves. To be honest I use approx 20 pair of gloves during an hour since everytime I got some resin on and it makes work harder I change them so I couldn't actually test if the gloves are getting corroded ^^

By the way... since I'm short in time and low on ressources I will not mold all the stuff :(
But hopefully during the end of the upcoming week I will be able to put in the visor!

What shall I use for the outside re-modeling? Rondo? or standard putty?

Ok, since this morning I'm pretty sure my fiberglassing and resining did it's job ;)

I just sanded the inside and outside of the helmet to get rid of the bumpiness I generated with the resin and I started with my putty:

hopefully I will have enought time this day and tomorrow to finish the putty-work and have the first layer of paint attached!

and here we go again... never thought putty would be THAT hard to sand :p
I managed to finish the two ears and the top part of the helmet as you may see on the following pictures

since I'm not really happy with the result, could somebody please tell me, how I can smoothen this even more? Putty showed itself not being soooo good for this small and tiny bumps.

Looks very good, Brava on the excellent pep work. I am looking foreward to seeing it painted, i foresee it looking very good. Hope my MK6 looks that good lol

thank you very much, I do think the same about yours :)
I especially like the detail. I still have to figure out on that with my helmet ;)

a nice strong, kid proof helmet is key to success in war against a genocidal alien race hahaha liking the pep work cant wait to see the rest

haha yeah ill bet elites never leave sloppy messes, those energy swords are brutal...but very clean
:p
100% acc :D

btw. I'm a little unhappy with my progress... but... you know... the children occupied their daddy ;)

due to the fact that I lack of sanding-paper I have to sand the next days... and putty... and sand... ;) By now it looks like I have to do it three times to gain an acceptable result.

Going to tell you, when you have small bumps like that, or little pits, you should use tube putty, which looks like a cream and hardens after 10 minutes, that way you don't have to reapply it to the whole helmet, if you don't have the putty, then you have to do it the hard way.

Ooh, shiny!

The shiny makes those bumps and pits stand out a lot. I found that a bit of drybrushing with black paint hides all manner of imperfections. DON'T use car spray paint though, it'll eat your silver away. I don't know what's in car paint that makes it dissolve stuff so much but I've found that I can't use the spray and wipe technique with it because it removes the base coat.

Looking forward to seeing that helmet fully painted. Got ideas for the visor yet?

Hi Cris, thanks for the hint. As written the silver will only be my first layer. The next will be matt black and on top on that the third / fourth layer with matt red + bright orange / or dark yellow ;)

About the spray, I bought them all together, it's spray basically made for all kind of plastic + metal ground, so I hope they will like each other :)
With the visor I already bought some golden visors with them I hopefully might be able to go ahead.

I guess in that case I will cut out the visor part to test with the already painted snippet if the paint does like each other.
thanks for advice!
