Just finished a shin. It was a nightmare. I had so much trouble combine the front with the back piece. It have some gaps in between the two pieces. Over all its Ok. Its a little big, but not too much. At least I learn a few things on this pep. Hopefully the next shin will go better (if you had build this shin, and I would love some advice/pointers from you) It took me a day to cut the pieces and a day and a half to assemble it...

I might make the thighs out of foam, so i could sit down in comfort rather than siting on plastic thighs.(might be a good Idea)

That shin looks really clean from the pics you posted. Were you able to get your foot through it with your shoe on?

I have to put my shoe on after i put on the shin. My brothers also said the same thing, Looks good. (Maybe i beaning too much of a perfectionist) Sometime i just hate when the parts doesn't match up exactly.

Thanks
Im using 110lb cardstock.(Premium indexcardstock from Office Max) I got the slight yellow, so no one will use my paper by mistake. Last time while i was making My MC helmet, i use the wrong paper, Latter I found out that my brothers use all my 110LB that was left in the printer. Well My other shin is almost done Will post pics latter on tonight. Shins Are finally done. The second shin went alot smoother, expect joining the two pieces. Im just glad the shins are done.

Dude! Everything is looking awesome!

You may want to add some more glue onto the thigh's seams, brah.

Keep at it, Trooper!

to fix the gaps with the thighs because i have had the same problem in making my odst armor with the hugh files out of foam is if you have a caulking gun you can get some acrylic bath sealer and fill the gaps with that and smooth it out with a wet finger so it doesnt stick to you and then let dry. i used it and it works very well and still maintains its flexibility. But all in all everything is looking really great, keep up the good work!!! :D

Satsugai, assuming that you fiberglassed your pep-files before, I am wondering how strong the smoothcast enforced peps are comparing them to fiberglassed enforced peps?!

Would you recommend pouring smoothcast over the outside of the armor to really smooth it out? It would be a great base for painting I think?! Or is that a wrong thought...? I don't know if it is possible to apply bondo to smoothcast since I am an absolute n00b to building armour, but I am gathering information for ways to build my own Chief armor! :)

On topic: your ODST build looks great! :D Keep it going! I'm gonna follow this!

I personally use smoothcast 321, which works a lot like resin, only it's non-toxic. You use it exactly like resin: brush it on on the outside, and soak some fibreglass and put that on the inside. Smoothcast 320 and 300 can actually be slushcasted, which means pouring some on the inside and slushing it all around like rondo. I've never heard of someone pouring it on the outside, though.

You can paint over smoothcast, but I recommend bondo to get that very nice smooth surface.

I'd recommend smoothcast 321 if you just want an alternative to resin. It has a 7 min pot life, and a 30 min until it fully dries, which is awesome. I don't know much about 320 and 300, but you should definitely ask around if you're curious.

Happy Birthday update: Yes today its my birthday. Well I work on the other foam thigh looks alot cleaner, and only took me 4 hours.Im going to try to fix the other foam thigh before i re-make it(thanks to drack video foam tutorial technique)

@Xarmymustang
I do have a caulking gun. I don't know if white lighting will work. I think it will. If not, I know what to go shopping for.

@Ninjetsu NL
yes i did some fiberglassed pep-files before, and compare to smooth-cast 320, It just as strong as fiberglass. Stealth and Hickeydog did great videos. So i gave it a try and i love it.
Everytime I research anything, I feel like Uncle from Jackie-chan adventures

Well Im done for today, going to enjoy the rest of my day.

Small update. Finished the last boot cover a few days ago. Add foamie details to chest core, Fill in the gaps in the thighs(still a few small cracks to fill) Almost ready for plastic dip the foam. I been working on strapping system and the spinal cord for the under shirt. I seen some people attached the spinal cord to the chest core, it works for them not for me.(I don't like how it looks) So my plan is to make the spinal cord from the neck to the lower back and attached to the under shirt. Why not just half? you might ask. Because i want to, and you don't have half a spinal cord.:D I ran out of foam so its not done yet. Might make it gray/steel color so it stands out more, against the black under shirt.( yes i know the shirt is red, its for the camera to pick up better)

I got some bubbles, don't know why? I try using smooth cast on the inside just try it out. most area is kind of smooth, with some bubbles texture. I don't know if i should cont. using smooth cast 321 on the inside or go back on the 320 for the inside. Looking for some advice and any one else got the bubbles with 321 or am i doing it wrong?
