So, as progress on my helmet has hit a standstill due to outside temperatures, I am shifting gears to making a Halo 4 Master Chief out of Pepakura and Fiberglass. I haven't seen that many of those around, so this should be interesting. Pics will follow shortly as soon as Photobucket is online again.

I have a feeling gravity isn't too good for a full torso, so I am leaving it as a front and back half until right before I resin it (Or I make a duct tape dummy)

I don't like how that thing under the neck looks. I did a really crummy job of pepping that, I may cut off and redo just that spot later. It works for now though.

Well I have finished up pepping the torso. I see why people haven't pepped it. I'm sorry I have to trod on some toes, but the little chest detail in the front and the circular thing in the back were way intricate for what they actually were. Hopefully I can fix those spots up in the future somehow.

Now, as I watch this thing sag just under it's own weight, what is the best way to make/secure props to hold it's shape until it is resined?

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, school life has been busy!

Despite that, I have completed pepping one of the two shoulder pads, as well as the bicep for it. Because it was way too cold for fiberglass and bondo, I experimented with spackel as a hardener for really small (and easy to replace) pieces. It seems to work well enough for kneecaps and bicep bits, but not anything larger than 3 inches.

anyway, here are some photos. The bicep and tricep pieces seem to look a little off the game model. I can re-work them with fiberglass once the weather warms up, but until then I am stuck with them as is.

Recently I had wonderful day just barely warm enough to resin!

I resined the one shoulder, and hardened the other bicep-tricep rig with spackel. Not much, but it was nice to be able to work!

Looking good man, keep it up. When it comes to the chestpiece, you can make custom supports out of cardstock to help keep its shape, I did that with mine and its been sitting in pepakura stage a while now without warping.

Well, I found several inaccuracies in the biceps and triceps. I used some cardboard to fix the surface a little, and covered them in spackel. I'm almost done, I just need to smooth a little more, add the little + shape, and put the little groove in the side straps.

here is a photo of all the little bits laying out hardening. I apologize for the quality of the photos, as always.

I just finished pepping a second shoulder plate, here is a comparison picture between it and the first.

IMG_1494_zpsfa6a01e4.jpg

I have a funny question. For things like shoulders, forearms, etc. how perfectly symmetrical do they normally have to be? I mean these looks pretty close, but they are no where near perfect clones of each other... is this going to cause trouble for me later?

So guys, I have a really funny question for you all. Does anyone know a way of fiberglassing or something similar in the winter?

All the people I've heard of that glass in the winter build a heat box, or something of the sort. I don't know of any other way, unless anyone you know happens to have a spare weather controller lying around. :)

Well, I have good news and bad news.

Good news is, someone I know seems to have had a spare weather controller. I had a week of warm enough weather, and have resined everything, and fiberglassed both shins, shoulders, and one of the thighs.

The bad news is that the smell of the resin on an entire suit of armor got my family all mad and complaining about how it is unsafe to work with these chemicals in the garage (with both doors wide open and a box fan going).

So, this build has to be put on hold until april, when I am allowed to work again (outside). Until then I'm going to be fiddling around with cardboard, as I am now too poor to even buy foam after all the money i dumped on fiberglass and resin.

hey you're doing great on this suit. i too am building the halo 4 master chief suit using pepakura. very few people do. right now it's too cold to resin so i'm just plugging away at pepping the parts. it's A LOT of work!! lol. maybe i'll start a build thread soon. I've been putting it off because i'm not that far on the suit and progress has been very slow. one quick question though, when you said you can't even buy foam did you mean that you're ditching your fiberglass suit and switching to foam?

I am going to finish this fiberglass suit. I have put too much into it already to quit now. I said that because I don't believe foam really needs warm weather, and there is no toxic stuff needed to work it.

i see. that makes sense. i was worried for a minute :p anyway, keep up the good work! i'm subscribing to this thread so i can get some tips on what to do and what not to do on my suit.

Well I was able to make a rig for painting. using a tarp, two sawhorses, and a space heater, I made a tent where I could store a drying helmet. Now I can paint whenever it is close to being warm enough. I made the entire helmet an oregano camouflage color, then dry brushed the dark green and metallic gray onto it. what do you all think?
