I just hope that they won't end up fu""ing up the franchise like they did with Aliens vs Predator, Resident evil 2&3, Doom, etc...

I hope that who ever direct it will know that there is a big fan following of Halo not because of him, but because of what to game designer did and what the novel writers pulled off.

It would be sad if they just remake the whole universe as tthe see fit to appeal to people who know nothing of the Halo IP.

I loved Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.

:?

You poor guy.

I actually think Danny Boyle's style would fit bestwith the way The Fall Of Reach was written. I mean, the way he directs has the same focus on every little detail as the way Eric Nylund writes.Nothing happens for no reason in his movies, and if someone pulls out some odd future device, you understand what it does the moment you see it.

I see Boyle's style as being very close to Blomkamp's in many ways. However, having never done a big CG-effects movie before (I don't really count Sunshine, much as it's one of my favourite movies), I would be concerned that he wouldn't necessarily pull it off. Equally, I don't know if Halo is a film he would actually *want* to make.

We all thought the same thing about Blomkamp.

I didn't? Blomkamp is a visual effects artist and that was how he came into the industry. Boyle has had an illustrious career and is an insanely talented director, but that's the inherent danger - I never had a fear about Blomkamp's ability with effects, rather I had concern about his ability to deal with narrative. Boyle's situation is the direct opposite.

1. I don't trust Spielberg to produce, he may have a lot of money and equipment but I don't trust his creative style to the Halo film.

2. I agree wholeheartedly with Link, Zach Snyder would be the best director for this fanchise, there's no one that stays as close to the source material as Zach (overlooking the giant squid of course... still made a "better understood" ending)

3. I definitely put my vote in for Ron Perlman, he's a very talented suit and voice actor (The only real part of Ron Perlman exposed in the Hellboy series was his eyelids... look up the definition of a suit actor Peter o_O)

4.EDIT: Cadet is right, his IMDB has been changed to reflect that.

4. I still think Steve Downes is necessary for the voice of MC, although it kills me he voices the gay Alchemist of The Venture Brothers... too funny.

Cheers,

Kensai

Actually, the voice of the Alchemist in Venture Brothers is the voice of Master Shake, Dana Snyder.

His face, eyes and mouth? You mean, those all-important things that you emote with, along with your voice? He would have nothing at all to emote with as the Master Chief. Hell, Hugo Weaving has more experience as a full-on suit actor (V For Vendetta) than Ron Perlman. There's a big difference between being a creature suit actor, say, and someone who can make good use of prosthetics as Perlman did. I would definitely favour Ian Whyte in that regard, as he has the height, the physique *and* the experience to do everything required of a guy playing the Chief.

That said, I would actually be in favour of an all-CG Chief having seen what can be done with Iron Man... thoughts, everyone?

As for Zach Snyder, I agree that he remains very close to his source materials, but at the same time many of his personal creative decisions as an action director leave me cold. I don't mind the slow motion quite as much as others do, but it does grate after a while - Dawn of the Dead has no slow-mo and is far better for it. Flipside is he has great experience doing green screen and effects movies (Sin City, 300), though I don't know if that kind of style would lend itself to Halo. He has the ability, but it's his visual style I would personally have problems with. I wouldn't actively object to Snyder doing it, but I don't think I would actively want him doing it either...

Weirdness, it was listed on his IMDB account for the longest time, seems to have been rectified. Thanks for clearing that up :). Makes much better sense in my head now.

Too be honest I am just plain happy that the movie is being produced... I thought the movie was never going to be made...

I could agree with the all CG chief idea, but how awesome would it be if they used the MC costumes on this site? Like costumes from the Elite Showcase, with maybe a little CG chief in there? Like if he got hit with a plasma bolt it would show shields crumpling, or his HUD, or in the case of Fall of Reach is when one of the S-II's (sorry I cant remember the name) gets his arm vaporized from the hunter...

I loved Tarnsformers, kinda like Indy 4

Adored Private Ryan and Band of Broters. So as long as they don't make drastic changes to the storyline and make sure they add Steven Downes as the voice of Master Chief and make sure we NEVER see his face, I'm fine with the idea of Spielburg as the director.

(Oh and make sure they get a better script then the current script.)

Exactly. My point wasn't really that Boyle would be doubted for the same reasons blomkamp is, it's just that the thin's they're doubted for are just as important. Id Blomkamp can pull off a successful narrative, than there's a chance Boyle can pull off action.

Very true. I guess the issue is whether you take the chance - and that's a big chance to have to take! :)

But why do you want GI Joe to be the Daddy? Why can't we have, you know, something else to be the sperm donor?

I just hope that they won't F-up the movie by putting actors that can't act to save their own lives!

I wan't to be able to see the emotion in their faces when they get hit by an invisible plasma bolt and marines crying for their fallen comrades.

Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan totally had that. I would hope that its has that same acting in the movie. I started to have tears run down my eyes at the end of SPR. That how good the acting was in my opinion.

Lol. Not like Duke in GI Joe.

Screaming his ass off while his face is emotionless. Hell, Hayden Cristiensen (or however you spell it) had more range in the star wars prequels.

He really didn't - they're just as bad as each other!

The actors I've really been following of recent have been Chris Evans and Michael Fassbender. Both fairly understated but very, very good actors. I would love to see either of them in a Halo movie.
