This technique is used to get the clay really smooth. Think as it as giving your piece a final sanding before spraying. It also helps to fill in any tiny holes or dents as well.
I normally add a little to a brush and then basically just brush the clay into place as and where needed.Then go over it again with my feathering and smoothing tools
After about 5-10 mins the clay will harden again.
