hey thanks wiyumishere! i see your carter build is coming along nicely too! keep up the great work!

ok guys here are some updates that have been waiting to be posted for a while...i've focused more on my helmet recently just so i can have a completed piece to boost motivation to finish. so enjoy the pics! here's what i got so far...

finished fiberglassing the inside and cut out the area for the visor. sorry no pics of fiberglass =(...

Alright so applied bondo to the outside and ended up laying down a thin layer of bondo just to ensure i don't have a face full of fiberglass when im wearing the helmet =P. after i finished sanding and smoothing i used a dremel to add some battle damage giving it a more 3D look.

Alright so bondo is done and helmet was primed and painted! i sprayed a base layer of silver and then used vaseline on the weathering parts that are dremeled in to keep it silver after painting. for the scratches i just used a paintbrush and sprayed some silver on the tip of the brush lightly going over the edges giving it a scratched look. i think it came out pretty good. installed the visor with some foam and glue. heres the finished product! what do you guys think?

i havent used bondo but thats awsome and makes me want to learn how.

it was my first time using the stuff too! so don't be afraid! :) its actually really easy once you get a few practice spots on your helmet done. and its great because after you apply it, you can always sand it down to how you want it. just be sure to do little areas at a time it's easier to sand and it'll be better for the detail. there should be some stickies too in the creation and noob forum you can take a look at for some pointers as well as some helpful videos on youtube.

The battle damage is exquisite! Can't wait to see the full suit.

thanks! i thought it turned out amazing too! i was surprised because this is my first time using bondo and a dremel lol. i thought i might have over done it a little but it seems like everyone so far has liked it. i'll get more updates asap but school has been a pain =/

This looks excellent surfahbum808, definitely inspiration for my upcoming project. Keep up the great work, I can't wait to see the finished project

dude thats nice, i'm workin on a suit, but im gonna get it all pepped first:p. the helmet scratches were cool, that is a good idea for damage thumbs up!

This has turned out great, awesome work!

thanks for checking out my thread! i'm gonna try and squeeze a whole bunch of time in on the days i dont have school so i can finish this before summer =P

haha i'm glad i can be an inspiration to others! if you have any questions on anything feel free to ask! i'll be more than happy to give you some tips and insights on what i did to acheive the battle damage etc. What type of suit are you gonna be working on?

Dude, the helmet turned out awesome!!! And Ruze's helmet is nice! Your build is one of the few carter builds that made me switch from an iron man build to a carter build! :) I'm stoked to see how this turns out, especially cause its your first suit!!!

Hey, that helmet it looking really goodf, but what kind of dremel do you use? Im looking for a good one, but dont know where to start.

Hey sorry I didn't see you comment :( but thanks for the compliment! I pepped he whole suit as well before starting the hardening process. I found some other HD files so I mint repep some stuff for the final suit not really sure yet because of my time frame I have to complete the project... :/ but good luck on your build!

DANG!!! great work man, lat a saw this thread you had the shoulders just peped and now you have had a lot of progress :D
the helmet looks really awesome too man, well kepp up the great work :D

"ehem" awesome work :D:D

haha thanks wiyumishere! you're build is looking amesome as well! i printed out that chest file you emailed me and am looking forward to pepping it for my final suit for the HDness of it lol. -surfahbum

haha thanks for the compliment! i think i put in a total of like 10+ hours into the helmet probably like 13+ if you add the pep time but i believe that it was way worth the wait lol. i'm stoked to know that you are switching to a halo reach build because of my work, thank you so much! you have no idea how motivating that is! i'll be posting more updates when i can so stay tuned! i'll be looking for your thread on your build progress as well! good luck! just reply or pm me if you need any pointers on your build. -surfahbum

Hey, that helmet it looking really goodf, but what kind of dremel do you use? Im looking for a good one, but dont know where to start.

well i don't use the dremel from dremel haha..personally i really dont think it matters how much you pay for your dremel tool. i used a craftsman rotary tool and just had some addon attachments for grinding, cutting, and carving. i think thats what really matters is how good the attachments are. i bought a set from sears hardware on black friday last year and busted it out just for this project and it has done wonders! pm me if you want any pointers on how to get some weathering effects like how i did on my helmet. -surfahbum

hey thanks road kill! it's been a while since i had just my shoulders pepped lol so you must have been shocked to see my progress lol. thakns for the compliment on the helmet! i definitely wanted the helmet to look insane and i think i pulled it off =P. stay tuned for more updates hopefully coming soon...i'll have to get through the week of midterms and then i'll be able to kick it into high gear to start hardening more pieces...lol -surfahbum

this is what it looks like installed in my helmet. i like the ease of access which allows me to pop a battery on the clip then slide it into the holder for a snug fit.

Your helmet looks amesome! Loving the lights. I'm pepping this same model. Can't wait till its finished. Espeially after seeing yours competed. Good luck on the rest of the build.

Wow, very impressive work! Those lights really sell the helmet. I'm looking forward to seeing more progress on your suit, from your work on the helmet, it looks like it's going to be a GREAT set of armor.
