mate looks like you know exactley what your are doing

you wouldnt happen to be studying model making would you?

You got me stumed CrackerJack. I couldn't figure out the exact project, all I know is that it has something to do with Semester 2 and Final Major Project at school.

Coming together very nicely by the way. Are you going to "recess mount" the magnets like Peter had mentioned earlier?

To be exact, I'm designing and building my own Sci-Fi helmet.

A quick sketch of what I want the end result to look like. The orginal design was more streamlined and organic, but it gradually became something more similar to the security helm. Will start up it's own topic (if thats call wit the mods, not exactly based on a fandom) once I'm under way with the final build.

Well, specialising in model making, my actual course is in 3D Design, but yeah.

Sorry for the lack of progress, I had to spend one of my private study days looking after a family member whose caught swine flu, will get back to work tomorrow.

Quick update. Started experimenting with the Neodymium magnets, and they work lovely! Unfortunately I left my phone behind this morning, so I wasn't able to take any pics. I'm also adding an extra 3mm of MDF to both ends of the gear wheel to extend the main launcher casing, as it looked a little short.

Hmmm.... Interesting? Looks a little bit like something from kamen rider? ;:)

Now you mention it. We had had a port of that show in the UK called the 'Masked Rider', I was quite into it at the time, but it didnt last long. I wonder if I was subconsciously influenced?

Hay peeps. As par my last post, I've often left my phone at home past few days, so while I've been working, I haven't been able to take pics, so I didn't bother to update the thread. But, now I do.

All the magnets for the central rocket module casing are placed. They just need fixing, but whether I do that now or just leave the holes so Ed doesn't have to drill them out again once the casts are pulled. I thought I'd taken a photo of testing with the whole casing, but apparently I didn't, so here's one I took just testing with just one part.

I'll fit the magnets for the rear cradle when I go in today. After that it's just shaping the forward grip and trigger guard.

agh! It's beautiful! I can't believe how good this looks, and we still don't have a completed view... This is absolutely stunning, I can't wait to see it finished.

:D I'll take a photo of it assembled before I leave, just for you!

I'm putting together the trigger guard right now. Still desiding whether to use some flexi-MDF to add the slight curve, or to leave it straight.

YAY! I'm not sure as to what you should do about that guard... I think it'll look fine either way.

I think I'll use the Flexi MDF, be a nice finish, and I'll have access to the machine shop tomorrow anywho.

Annnnnnd just you you,

If you look closely, you'll see I've christened it Sir Spank-A-lot. Not very original I know, but still.

That's sweet dude. It's lookin like it's gonna turn out awesome.

I'd give you a cookie cake too, but I'm fresh out of... MnMs.

lol I'm starting a diet soon, but thanks anyway.

As par the Trigger guard, I've added a support that'll run along from the top of the grip to the end of the trigger guard itself, this means the grip and guard assembly can be cast separately from the forward launcher assembly. I was kicked out of the workshop before I could finish attaching anything else, so I wont bother showing the pic of the support, but it's in the gallery folder.

its beautiful! you just gotta finish that up, get it molded, and then we see a painted version! btw... sir spank-a-lot is completely appropriate.

Built the basis for the Trigger guard, left that to set overnight and I'll finish it tomorrow. Also started detailing the forward grip, will finish that tomorrow too,...... and all it'll need is a sand down, some button polish, priming and it's done!

Looks awesome. Not much more to do before you start molding. It will be interesting to see how you will make the molds.

Wooopheeee!

Cranked out the Trigger guard and forward grip this morning.

And with that fabrication has finished. Yeah parts still need cleaning up here and there, and it needs to be primed before I send it to Mastercheeze to be moulded, but all the parts are structurally done.
