Real name is Paul. I live in North east Louisiana. I am a major gear head and tinker with all kinds of stuff. I love the halo storyline. I have lurked around for a few months here on and off but today just happened to notice that registration had open up and here i am. As a project a couple months back i started researching what it would take to do a real warthog. I don't have the time or money right now to do a full size warthog right now that would take custom frame and axles to get the full effect and large size. (240" length, 123.6" width and 117" height) But i am getting everything lined up to do one in size similar to the weta warthog / Operation Chasity ones. Mine will be based on a 1977 Chevy K-5 blazer. I have been searching for months for the right angles in pictures and now finishing up in CAD ( google sketch up 6) on the final suspension work. The blazer uses leaf springs ft and rr, so i am looking at a conversion on that to make it a cantilever style suspension. On the start of the body work will be my first job and then work on getting the suspension right. I have gotten a couple ideas on the engine and trans. Still deciding on what power plant and if i want a divorced transfur case or not. I will pick up the Blazer minus engine and trans this time i come home. ( i work offshore in Saudi Arabia and will be headed home on the 11th. ) The body of the blazer is pretty beat up and rusty so i will be taking it completely off and not using it. So all i will be using is the frame, suspension and steering. Next step i will use what wood i have left to set up the basic out line of the shape i want so i can order what square / rectangular square tube i want. I am trying to go with a pretty stout center piece so it can double as a roll cage if ever needed. I have learned how to do composite foam / fiberglass construction on a hovercraft project so that will be incorporated in this project on skin. The main body sub frame will be built first so i can see weight placement. Thinking of setting the engine back for better weight dist. along the chassis, but will have to see in mock up if it will work like i want it too. I will update when i get started on it this time home. Any questions or comments are welcomed. I have my email like active to mail me if you want. If not i will post it later.
