People not being recognised?

Well, John (Project003) and I were discussing that some members are not being well recognised.

Don't you guys think te same?
To me it looks like that "Noobs" just post or spam in some topics then the other topics just get lost.
Because there is no "2nd page" in the sub forums of the Creation Discussion, so the new topics or the spammed topics stay in the first page and all the other good stuff gets lost.

I really dont know if thats the case, but it kinda looks like it is.
But the point is that some members dont get the recognition they deserve.

This thread is not to cause any trouble or any controversies but just wanted to point this out.

That is the sad reality of an active forum.
Even the most seasoned members have threads that only get 1 or 2 replies and disappear into the archives. I don't think it is so much that people aren't being recognized as it is that no new information or build pics or whatever is being added to these kind of threads. If you have new stuff to post about your original topic, you can always edit your last post and send a pm to those who replied showing interest in the topic. This seems like a logical and "405th legal" way to avoid the dreaded double-post. I do know how frustrating it is to post something you are proud of and have it get lost because it happens to be a busy day on the 405th. All I can tell you, is to keep at it. Don't let this discourage you from building and showing off what you have done. Just because people don't reply doesn't mean they aren't looking at what you are posting. Sometimes threads just die. :(

I always try to go at least 3 or 4 pages back especially in the noob section which seems to get spammed to no end. I do understand what you're saying though. Last year when I was building my first suit my thread would just get lost in the shuffle between the spam, and some lifeless souls oogling over the female members threads in the forums just hoping for some e-attention. I didn't even bother making a wip thread for my daughters armor, and instead just made a set of Youtube videos for my channel which are coming along nicely.

On a side note I can't edit posts at all. I hit edit button, and after I do the edit to the post I just get the little swishy circle, but it never edits.

It seems like its a glitch. You HAVE to go to the "Advanced Edit" mode because the quick edit doesn't seem to be working.

I think I get what alex means. Some noobs just post "great" and nothing more in as many posts as possebile to get veteran status (which is infantryman now:p) or they make a topic about "how can I do this" when they could just read the stickys>.>

The infantry status does nothing more than showing that you are an active member of the 405th, not that you make cool stuff. I have seen people with noob status which make incredebile stuff.

Because of the noobs desire to become a infatryman, they make alot of users loose attention of their work since most people has to answer all the "how can I do this" posts with saying "read the stickys" and therefore makeing alot of treads just about that.

Its not actually the thread thing, but it kinda look like it is.

What Im saying is that some good members that have been here for years dont get the recognition they deserve. Only because the noobs dont want to look at other stuff and just start spammingthe new cool topics.

I agree with AlexSpartan177 and Jico on the point that some members don't get the recognition they deserve, and there is to much spamming on the forums with people asking the same questions like "where can I find this pep file ?".

Read the Stickys and do a little research its not that hard, and don't get me started on the misuse of the Blogs :angry

On any online forum, your reputation is based on other people's opinion of you. Just because you've been here for years doesn't give you a good rep, and just because you spam the boards doesn't give you a good rep either. The well known members of the 405th are that way because they've contributed in either a positive way, or a negative way. Take for example LeeKegan, he makes awesome props, and people want to buy them. Then take for example a stereotypical re-caster who got banned. They're infamous for their dishonesty. No one here deserves recognition, it must be earned, and even then, you can't guarantee you'll be as respected as other people. That may sound incredibly harsh, but it's true. I've been on these forums for a long time, and my topics almost always get buried after a day or two. You can't expect special treatment just because you feel you deserve it.

See thats what Im talkin about.
There are a lot of old members that have done a lot for the forums but I bet if yo ask some semi new members they will probably wont know their names.

like how I wrote the book on how to strap the H3 Marine and a new more efficiant way to strap a spartan suit? to the 405th, I am THE suit strapping engineer. I redesigned Ithica's suit to fit more comfortably, along with numorous threads on suit engineering, not just straps, but a revolutionary way to custom fit your armor AND make it more comfortable at the same time. all of those threads have been lost because of this constant spam of usless noob questions. I was here before Ithica, I was a patiant noob. I read all the stickies and PM'ed veterans about questions instead of starting a thread about it. it was until almost at the end of 2008 (around the same time Ithica joined) I began designing ODST, Marine and a few top secret projects (which most likely will never be seen by the public eye mwahahah). my point is, where is my "deserved" recognition? if I left the forum tomarrow, nothing would change. no one ever talks about Project 003 and his strapping threads because too many forum Trolls spam it to death.

Agreed, where is your recognition? I have read through your strapping tutorial many times but then it was lost in the endless trolling and spamming. If only all noobs could be like you and me and a bunch of others who didnt troll (I know most of you it's just I dont want to have to list everyones name)

But I have to say, if you left the forum tomorrow I would do 2 of 3 things...

1. Cry
2. Be sad
3. Email you begging you to come back

most likely 2 and 3, REAL MEN DONT CRY!!!!

But hopefully things will change.
As Harvey Dent once said "The night is darkest before dawn" We must push through hell to get to peace.

Thats my rant...

I'm not sure what sort of recognition you're looking for. I'm sure the armor strapping threads have been of use to lots of people. It's one of the pitfalls of online forums, you don't really know what people are talking about and using in their builds. Many builders who have been around for a while struggle with name recognition. The ones that stick around do so because they like sharing what they know and showing others what they've done.

i think what most of you are missing is that its not replies that show recognition. sometimes its just the views that show people are interested. if you have a thread (like my Mark Iv suit) that has 46 replies (more than half are updates) but 623 views, it shows me that people are looking but they're just being lazy ( i mean that in the nicest way possible). i do it all the time, ill see something amazing but then i wont write a reply cuz i dont feel like typing.

everyone gets "ignored" sometimes (even adam) but like leatherneck said, your not here to show off for glory, your here to expand your own knowledge as well as others and to make friends

That's really phenomenal. As a fairly new guy, I try to notice the ones who have done a lot for the forums. I know Nintendude and Rundown do a lot. I try to use the search function to avoid unnecessary questions and spamming and I look for tutorials as well.
I'll be adding you as a friend because honestly, strapping is important, and it's great that someone has helped the entire forum with it.

My only qualm is that multi-page isn't default, so I can't even get to MY OWN thread to update it with pictures, so that I may please those who care. Then, all the spam, and admittedly better topics, flood page 1, and my work gets lost to the archive. (Oh, how sweet my revenge shall be, Spark)

I think the main issue here, is some people try to contribute to the community, and what they've said could be very useful. But, no one notices, because of all the spammed topics flooding it out. That's my two cents.

Rhino, you are a good friend :)

Ok guys so I am going to put this a little blunt. Hope no one takes this personally.

There are a whole lot of people on this site, and it would be almost impossible to recognize everyone on here. Plus we have to remember that we are building these armors for OUR enjoyment. This isn't a popularity contest; it is about the armor.

We all like getting attention and having our egos stroked, its human, but thats is not why we are here so lets not worry about it too much. Create, share and enjoy. If you have something that is useful to someone, post a link to your work for them. But sitting here ranting about recognition isn't really going to do much. Just keep working and moving forward.

As for the spammers; there is only so much we can do. I am sure the staff is well aware of the problem and are doing their best to resolve the issue. Lets just try to guide all the new members into the right direction and be patient with them. Everyone deserves a chance. We are all here because we love Halo and because we love the armor. Lets keep that in mind and find that common ground.
