ok I just saw it like 1/2 hr. ago...what i thought:

AWESOME!!!!!! well done, 1st person veiw was well done that made the movie better, i mean there is so much to so but i don't think i could say enough to get what i want out!!

SO GO SEE IT!!!

"But Director Matt Reeves has stated that if they do a sequel, it might take place during the same monster attack, but seen from another camera."

Interesting...though I think they'd have to do something different to keep the FPS/Homefilm look as enticing as Cloverfield. Maybe a helmet cam from a solder or something....military point of view would be neat maybe. One thing I really liked about this is that the army wasn't portrayed as total dicks (i.e. 28 weeks later and other apocalyptic movies where they are "just following orders" but are being pretty unrealistic in many ways) for lack of a better term. (spoiler? maybe.)

i definitely liked how they actually had accurate uniforms for the national guard. and i liked that it was the national guard this time, because you know that if that ever happened then it would be those guys that would have to respond.

it was funny because during the movie i was trying to examine their uniforms to see what they were with. haha

It was AMAZING.
I saw it last night, and yeah.
It was kinda short though. I personally thought the ending was lame and sudden, but the whispers at the end were uber cool.

That's the kind of sequel I was thinking about when I left the theater, the military POV would be a pretty cool angle :)

Question about the ending:
I just read something about a scene after the credits showing Rob and Beth in front of a body of water and in the background you can see something fall from the sky and land in the water, did anyone else see this or is it just BS? I know I didn't see it, or maybe I did and didn't realize... I need to see it again

I think Cloverfield was a great movie! I thought the monster was gonna look dumb as hell. But it turned out that Bad Robot productions knows what they are doing! I cant wait for this movie to be on DVD!

EDIT: abandonship, yes that was after the credits because we left during the credits and people asked us about that and we were like wtf? and they said "After the credits, didnt you see it?"

That makes sense. I was waiting for a connection of the monster from the other stream of video. I didn't wait til after the credits to see anything though.

Saw it last night. It was pretty good, but I honestly don't think the character of the guy with the camera (Hud) was very realistic. Maybe just me. Also, I wasn't a fan of how MUCH they showed of the monster. I would have liked a little more mystery. But the Leviathan theory/explanation is an interesting one. And it ties in to that after-credits scene.

Really like the editing though.

EDIT: As I said, I didn't stay for the credits, but this I did find. Can't find the scene after the credits though... SPOILER-ESQUE!

I've been hunting for a copy of that scene but there doesn't seem to be anything so far, I'd say there'll probably be something on youtube in a few days.

I saw it last night and loved it! People who whined about plot holes are idiots XD And I sat too close so I got a little woozy with the camera work. The only thing I didn't like was how it was way too 9/11 ish, that I think was veeeeeeeeeeery exploitive (IR crossing the brooklyn bridge and the empire state building being destroyed and the people running away from the smoke, a little much there JJ). And after the brother died, the gf, to me, reacted, well, weird and so did the the guys brother. I also stayed til' the end credits and I saw nothing, only heard some muffled audio after the credit song. The monster was creepy as hell and very very organic looking, I also thing there were different sized monsters running around, IE the one that ate HUD ate the end. I also wonder if the people who get bit turn into something. They had a GREAT marketing and the online scavenger hunt for the movie was very smart.

This was a very well done movie and I'm glad they didn't show everything and how it took on a person's point of veiw. I wonder if the second movie will be from a point of view where they know what the monster is and they are able to kill it or whatever.

I absolutely loved this movie for a multitude of reasons.

My wife and I stayed til the end of the credits, there was no extra clip at the end, just a little muffled audio.. which was indecipherable to us... I'm sure someone somewhere will come up with some way too complicated explanation of it.

Anybody else see in the credits the listing for clips from The Creature from 20,000 Fathoms, Godzilla, and another related movie? I didn't see the clips used anywhere, but they listed credits for them.. I suppose they could have been hidden in the movie, like in the electronics store or something. Interesting..

Creature design? Perfect, exactly what JJ Abrams said about it being like nothing anyone has ever seen in a movie like this. I loved how each time you saw the creatures they showed you a little more of them. Great strategy for getting the most mileage out of the creature design. It was similar to Adams pic, but that must have been an early design for it.. there were lots of differences between the two. The smaller creatures were absolutely terrifying too.

I have to say I don't see much room for a sequel.. I don't think it would work nearly as well now that so much has been revealed. But, you know Hollywood, they can't leave good movies alone.

I was thinking the same thing, either that or the bites from the little ones cause an infection which makes people explode (like what happened to Marlena) which then spreads the infection, that could be why those guys were in the Hazmat suits and why they had to isolate her

From what I've read and heard the audio says "Help Us" when you play it forwards (there does seem to be a bit of a debate about that) and if you play it backwards it says "It's still alive". There was a video up on youtube with the both audio files but it's gone now. I did find this though http://cloverfieldmessage.ytmnd.com/

Well. i think that the girl who got bit and blew up wasn't infected, but it just thinned her blood out A LOT i mean she was bleeding like mad when they took her into the room. Was it a different one that eat HUD than the one through out the entire movie? i don't think so. But i think that fan made spoiler made a while back was pretty accurate with the little dudes that lived on the big one.

The scale comparasson for one, to me, it's completely different than the "main" monster. The one that ate HUD was about the size of a tank, the main monsters foot was the size of a tank. The one that was destroying Manhattan was half the size of the Brooklyn bridge, and living here in NYC and being in Manhattan everyday, the buildings it was knocking down aren't exactly small The Time Warner Center is in my neighborhood(Coulmbus Circle) and those things are massive, haha kinda sucked when I saw it all knocked down. Just my take on it :D I guess we'll find out if they make more CLoverfield related stuff.

I'm going to write my personal review of it here...

I thought the movie was going to be like most movies these days: Over advertised and nothing to back it up. I mean, the last movie of this sort was jack black and King Kong. And that just blew. Anyways, onto the review.

The movie starts and you see that's its being filmed in first person by a standard video camera (or at least it's meant to seem that way) During the first part, you start to feel dizzy trying to follow it, and start to wonder if your going to have to deal with it. Maybe it's just because Jason sucks as a camera man, maybe not. I felt relieved when HUD grabs the camera away.
The fact that the story was "taped over" a home video does seem annoying, and sometimes confusing at first, but it turns out to be the greatest technique I have ever seen to both characterize the beth and rob, as well as adding to the well played ending.
When the earthquake first hits, another great technique made the first person camera work possible. The news broadcasts gave us the third person images that we needed to stay in touch with what was going on.
When Jason first dies, I was surprised that his death didn't effect the characters that much. Now, this is either a good thing, showing how people actually react, or just bad acting. Someone else should telll me.

The story goes on, and the monster disappears for awhile, and you start to wonder whether it's going to be like War of the Worlds, and hardly ever see the monster in the movie.

The plot gets pushed on though, by the tarantula things, which was perfect. Something needed to be created to keep the conflict going.

Another thing I loved was the comic relief in the movie. Especially from HUD in the tunnel. It just lightened the mood.

I was completely surprised to find that they killed off everyone at the end of the movie. No other movie does that the way cloverfield does.

Overall, I loved the movie. It's a classic. The fact that it was filmed in it's own perspective and with not-so-big actors gave the movie a personal connection to yourself; like you were sitting on your computer watching youtube. It all added to the realism. I loved the hype as well, as well as the clues left along the way, and the fact that watching the movie was only knowing half of the story. You feel such a personal connection with the characters that at the end, you feel as if you just witnesses the death of your friends. It was awesome.

If you're reading this, you probably saw it, if not, go see it!
