I have the halo encyclopedia and i believe it says Halsey dies making an A.I. in her perfection which is Cortana A.K.A. " the Package" which means if halsey died Jun went down with her.

Halsey didn't die. She hasn't died yet. She's still alive, many ways of rephrasing it, same result.
Halsey flash cloned her mind 10+ times to make 3 AIs, Cortana and two others whose names slip my mind ATM, go read the books, or at least read up on the wiki.

After reading this thread closely Ive decided to clear everything up.

first for those who have not read the book:

(spoiler alert if you want to read the book)halo:first strike:
Fred and Kelly are sent to protect ground based generators powering mac guns in orbit, but fail. they then proceed to castle where they find halsey and some spartan II's (no jun) and then the covenant infultrate the base. they then retreat into the mines under the base into a unkown forerunner facility where a crystal is found. after the events of halo master chief picked up some survivors from a pelican in the debris field (powered down so was not detected first by cortana, read the book) and was able to capture a covie ship and returned to reach to pick halsey up.

ghost of onyx: halsey fred and kelly and some III's evac into the center of onyx, surviving. kurt sacrafices himself.

there, hopes this clears some stuff up.

again, not necessarily, the last you see of jun is when the camera is facing carter's pelican, doctor halsey goes towards hers, jun wishes carter good luck, then follow's halsey, you never see him go into the base...and about the explosion, have you ever heard of remote explosives? they are quite useful in situations such as these.

.....I'd like to point to you that Halsey was the <<LAST RESORT>> security option for Castle base.


in First Strike she activates the only failsafe for the base that only SHE and top brass know about but only SHE can activate it...which she dutifully does while F-104, kelly, Issac, and Vinh are there with her and they go into the titanium mines under menachite mountain which is also home to the forerunner crystal.

Yes - unlike certain others, I have (and have read) the books. Unfortunately I think it has already been fairly well established that the Books are NOT canon (maybe "temporary" canon) and are easily overruled based upon the whim of whichever creative team happens to be working on the most recent money-making project. Given the inconsistancies already introduced in this latest Reach "retelling", debating anything to a definitive "end" in the "books vs. game" arena has now been rendered essentially impossible.


Halo has officially tripped and stumbled into the "franchise" trap where multiple media types (all approved and official) give conflicting accounts of the same events and fans argue endlessly, many going to ridiculous lengths to justify "their" interpretation (not addressed at you, merely a general observation). Enjoy everything for what it's worth but trying to shoehorn story "A" into story "B" after the fact is doomed to failure, however interesting and entertaining it may be...

jorge- slipspace, so he is alive, but in half of a ship in a random place, and that half a ship is FULL ov covenant
emile- energy sword, + you see his unmoving body
jun- bungie say that he is alive, so i take it he is alive
carter- he slams into a scarab, so might have survived (spartans can survive the heat of orbital re-entry, so a little scarab explosion might not have done much
noble 6 (you)- you dont see yourself die. the cutscene ends when the elites assasination blade is up high. there is an amazing speculation, that just before he stabs down, jun headshots him and you survive

Halo Reach was not entirely correct to The fall of reach John 117 was in possesion of Cortana when he boarded the Autumn, which was before the Covies arrived

Completely apart from the Jun thing~

If memory serves - advanced AI's have the ability to make copies of themselves to be left behind or perform individual task apart from the main body. These copies are nowhere near as advanced and/or powerful as the original but they get the job done. It is entirely - though theoretically possible - that Cortana had made a copy of herself to be left behind and collect the Forerunner data on Reach with Halsey while the core program was with John on the PoA. Then, when Noble 6 brought the copy to Keyes, he had it merged in with the core program.

Or I might be thinking something entirely different all together. I've read so many books about AI's that sometimes the lines get blurred but I could swear that Cortana did something similar to that in Fall of Reach. I know she can split up her process threads to perform different task. Maybe it's my brain trying to visualize that as her making copies of herself.

But as DW said - lots of flimsy conjecture to try and shoehorn one story into another. I just try to enjoy the game and ignore any inconsistencies that may pop up. The big details are usually pretty solid despite the fact that the little ones might mar the surface up a bit. Usually at least.

As for Jun, he was last seen escorting Halsey to C-Base. Good enough for me. Doubt there would be enough material of their trek from Sword to Castle to constitute an entire book. I doubt even so much as a short graphic novel or the like. No, this will likely forever be one of the unsolved mysteries of the Halo universe.

I like to think he escaped reach and opened a pet store in New Hampshire. It would be hard at first with the chaos from the Covies assault on earth circa Halo 3, but he would make it. He's a Spartan after all. Selling puppies and kittens and the like to war-torn children and tired colonist looking for some reprieve from inner colony hell.

Oh, maybe he could meet up with Maria and confirm she did indeed retire to earth and have kids - and they're Jun's kids!

And they name one John.

Noble 1 - KIA because of an exploding Scarab, excessive heat and the fact that he was fatally wounded and wasn't wearing his helmet
Noble 2 - KIA thanks to a shot in the head with Needle-shards.
Noble 3 - Unknown, last seen escorting Dr. Halsey to CASTLE-base
Noble 4 - KIA thanks to fatal Plasma damage.
Noble 5 - KIA thanks to the unstable transition into slipspace, if not by that cause, thanks to the radiation emitted from the transition.
Noble 6 - KIA thanks to overwhelming enemy forces.

Well here is my theory. In the books, Halsey manages to get herself stuck on the Shield world along with 2 spartan III's, Kelly, Fred and Linda I think in Ghosts of Onyx. Now the interesting thing is that in the book Halsey had no idea about the spartan III's even though this was staged after reach. Bungie, much like Lucas, likes to have two different story lines going on (game and other). So with that, if they ever continue Halsey (who most certainly survives with a plot device) through the story, Jun will most likely be with her until he is relieved.

Bungie doesnt want you to know, jusr like what happens to Halsey? Maybe Jun sacrificed his life to save halsey maybe hey both died, It is kinda like what they did with Master Chief you dont know what happens.
