Cause thats the only explanation i can come up with.

*head popping off* That is some great work. Cant wait for the finished big daddy though. (yes I <3 big daddy's)

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

The Autobot pep looks like it turned out well A_Guardian, how hard is it? I should probably make one sometime… I need to come up with some more things like that too.

Been ridiculously busy recently, have been the past few months but more so these last couple of weeks (so if you've sent me a message somewhere and haven't heard back that explains why). Right now I'm finishing the last of my portfolio models (the mace and rifle below) and getting everything rendered so I can send them out and have it all published before I go pester some people about work at the end of the month :D

I'm also finishing up the Thunder Hammer but right now all it is is a bunch of PVC pipe and HIPS covered in the pink goo that is bond so no pics, will have some when I'm done early next week. I'm smoothing Oonsk out while I work on the hammer too...

Now for renders:

The previously mentioned final portfolio model, Gabriel's mace from the movie Legion:

4404600737_10e9015121_m.jpg 4406872523_c9b220dbd0_m.jpg

Not too excited about the source material but it's a cool looking prop. I'll be building a physical version sometime soon too.

Also finishing up my alien assault rifle based on the District 9 concept art Weta released a while back:

4396345697_50e421e412_m.jpg 4408733443_8e63e548ee_m.jpg

Still a bit to be done but it's coming along well.

These are just random projects I started to keep me busy.

Some Aperture propaganda I found on a Half-Life wiki

4405376701_d823bc6fef_m.jpg 4405254261_8ec05a6f7e_m.jpg

There's one more but I haven't done it yet.

Can't remember where but I found this wallpaper from Darksiders so I 3Dified the logo

4396068162_8c84ed6e2d_m.jpg 4396068026_7205e88fef_m.jpg

Mostly needs some chamfering and the background symbols.

I thought I posted this but maybe I didn't… was poking around in WoW and figured I'd build a mohawk grenade:

4363737863_d203d9ff90_m.jpg 4364411944_6ee4055b9d_m.jpg

That's it for now...

im looking for someone who could send me a halo gun of any kind. any suggestions?

Do you mean a physical prop or a 3D model of a Halo gun? In either case I'm not really the one to talk to about that. generally any props I make are one-offs and those aren't for sale and 3D models I usually hang on to. Also if it's an actual prop you're after you're probably not going to find someone giving them away since a lot of time and effort goes in to making them.

You'll need to hang around here for a while too, so you can reach Veteran status and gain access to the appropriate section for buying and selling.

Some more stuff getting done

I did this one quickly the other day, a digital version of a knife I have:

4424040318_ecf3231cd3_m.jpg 4423274985_c5dbe101b9_m.jpg

4424206784_821024038c_m.jpg 4424206902_f1b59d1512_m.jpg

It's still unfinished but the inner pieces are mostly done.

Finally almost finished with the Westar's, which I officially hate

4430148914_88d04c47a3_m.jpg

Only thing left to do is finish off the counter weight.

I've also started working with Zbrush again, it's been way too long since I've done anything with it so I'm having to relearn everything.

4432474543_8b722b1808_m.jpg 4433250002_59631ab141_m.jpg

4432475567_5f588f3956_m.jpg 4432474759_0f6b9bef26_m.jpg

Not sure what this is supposed to be, just randomly sketching with Zspheres and this is what I wound up with.

I think I saw someone on here talking about this ODST logo so I thought I'd try digitizing it

4433343650_45ff1f62fc_m.jpg

I think the original is too dark and not big enough for me to finish it properly right now but it's a start at least.

I also edited and rendered the Thunder Hammer model again, this way it is more accurate to the current physical prop...

4432569155_26e34918ae_m.jpg

I'm almost done with the hammer prop so I'll try to get some photos of that up later in the day if all goes well.

Awesome stuff and the district 9 guns were they pep'd?

Thanks :) The D9 weapons aren't for pep I'm afraid, they're far too complex to do anything with in pep. I guess you could maybe cut it up but really you'd be better off if they were built from the beginning for pepping. I'm actually trying to open the assault rifle in pep right now, getting the thing open took at least 15 mins and I'm still waiting for it to fix up all the open edges (must be at least 20 mins so far).

If anything they would be better for milling I think, that'd give me far less headaches :p

Edit: Just over 20 mins later it finished fixing the open edges and there's still a bunch that would need to be done manually:

Just did the auto unfold and it came in at just under 300 pages :p

love that someone uses their modeling skills for something beside halo. the Apature science posters are too good  gotta love portal.

or u culd always just buy them instead from WETA

Totally, if I was after a prop version I'd buy one of their ones any day. Not only to save a ton of work but they're also using the same moulds as the movie ones :D I wouldn't ever pep a weapon either, too much extra work.

hey, could i get a link to that awsome grenade? :D

Since it was a game model that I was just playing with I wont post that one up but I am working on a better, scratch built model for it. The game one is okay but there is a few things that make it a little annoying to work with and could be improved a bit.

As much as I like Halo I find it does get a little boring after a while, as do most other subjects, that's why I like to bounce between them so I don't get too bogged down with one particular subject :D

Having said that though, I got back to Halo briefly and made this model this afternoon:

4435069164_1940be7816_m.jpg 4434163979_e5669efbda_m.jpg

4434940760_362ea16624_m.jpg 4434941532_36a682eb12_m.jpg

Built using the Weta Cortana statue as reference, it should be an almost perfect replica (though there are a couple of little things I've noticed since rendering)

That reminds me, I should finish that last Portal/Aperture poster...

Edit: One more render with some blinky lights

Thanks man :D I'm running 3.5 R3 as well, I went straight from 3.2 so there's so much new stuff to play with now. The Zsketch tools really make things so much easier and more like actual sculpting, which is pretty cool. Might start a new model later today I think :)

Also a couple more renders of the chip:

4436465094_eeb5e533c4_m.jpg 4436478374_a0a99f36e8_m.jpg

It's a little difficult to get the core piece to glow as I want it to

I just got it recently, satrted pl;aying around with the zspehre head sketch tutorial, where you building up the "muscle" over your zsphere skull then skin it, its an interesting way to work. Also just sorted out a new tablet, cant wait for that to arrive

I don't think I've seen that tutorial, is that in Zbrush or a third party type one from somewhere like Gnomon? I'm slowly working my way through one of the Eat3D DVDs right now, some interesting stuff in there. The new trim and polish brushes are pretty neat!

Also thanks for saving me from double posting ;)

Did some more work on the Cortana chip the other day, I've scaled it up roughly seven times it's actual size and made drawings out of it:

4436849889_5d043ccc3f_m.jpg 4436849681_130bbe2c75_m.jpg

Once I get some supplies and free time I plan on using them to build a human scale chip that could possibly be used for photos with Cortana costumers :D If you get the forced perspective just right you should be able to get a photo with someone in armour and have it look like they're holding the chip while Cortana stands on it.

There's a partially painted Thunder Hammer in there too for a sense of scale ;)

I started on this yesterday too, after Weta posted some photos of the weapons they did for AVATAR:

4436728851_574c916098_m.jpg 4437792250_fa640bda0b_m.jpg

4439047328_0b5e18aabe_m.jpg 4439292454_369c13581d_m.jpg

I think I've maybe put three or four hours into it so far and it's almost done. All that really needs to be done is the barrel and some problem areas on the side… it's really hard to get them to look right using the only two references they posted but I'll get it eventually

its actually on the zbrush website, in the tutorials section.

Ah, I hadn't really had a good look though there but I will now. Thanks! There's also a Zbrush demo going on down at Weta with Scott Spencer next Monday, really looking forward to that :D

Dang man your cortana chip is awsome.

Thanks, it's been pretty helpful having an actual chip in front of me to use for reference. Makes things much easier :D

Some more progress on things.

After doing the silver paint on the hammer I found it looked too boring so I did another render with some red in it to see how it looked:

4463495920_14db56cd58_m.jpg

Thought that was pretty decent so I got some paint, Tamiya TS-85 Bright Mica Red for those keeping track of such things:

4460971365_ac59c2edb3_m.jpg

Did a few coats of that along with some black and clear misted on for texturing and after that I started weathering with some acetone:

4460970967_7f2fa5b435_m.jpg 4460971107_6c5c42cc38_m.jpg

Basically wetting a rag or paintbrush with some acetone and wiping away the red layers of paint to reveal the silver underneath.

After that I did some washes with various blacks and browns and also went over the red parts with some steel wool to scuff it all up. This is where it stands right now, not the best photos but I was in a hurry:
