So that's all for now. I will be machining more parts over the next coming weeks. I just want to take a quick second to thank you guys for the support. This project is slowly becoming reality, and it feels amazing to finally have something in hand. And again, sorry for the delay, but I hope it was worth the wait! See you guys soon.

That looks amazing dude! ...i was eyeing up a milling machine while buying some welding supplies yesterday...i might have to start saving my pennies!

Sooooooooooo shiny !!!! That's beautiful work my friend I can't wait to see the finished product !

Thanks guys :D

Monday I've got 75lbs of raw material pieces coming in so I can start machining the internal components. I'm on spring break this week so I will have several days off work to machine components so stay tuned for that! I also want to set up a camera to record some machining and do a fast forward vid for that stuff eventually. And seeing as the M3D Pro is going to take their sweet time, I may be picking up another printer soon so I can start printing the battle rifle. But here's some pictures of some bananas for scale. It will look better when I get more parts on it, but for now it's big and awesome haha.

(The 3D printed chamber will be replaced by a machined one.)

Hey guys! I've got some good stuff for you today. I have begun machining components over the past couple of days. The first thing that I have started with is remaking the chamber components rather than using the one that my pokey little 3D printer made. I took lots of pictures... and some video! I will be trying to take as much footage of my machining as possible.
Check it out here:

First things first: I placed the bolt carrier in the body for some proof of concept stuff. This will require some modifications to make sure things fit nicely and the bolt cycles freely. It is a little snug as of now due to tolerance buildup, but it's nothing (fingers crossed) that can't be fixed.

WP_20170316_12_16_39_Pro_zpskeux6vt8.jpg

The piston lines up very nicely with the hop unit and should create a nice seal.

The bolt carrier also properly resets the hammer in the trigger unit.

WP_20170316_12_26_11_Pro_zpsiezj2u9z.jpg

Ok, now onto the machining.
First thing I did was to turn down the center pin that the two bipod legs bolt into. (This is in the last portion of the video.)

WP_20170316_19_54_02_Pro%20-%20Copy_zps6bsvfshc.jpg

I am currently using a spring and ball detent to get the legs to snap into place. I will be replacing the spring with something stiffer as eventually the current spring will be too weak I believe. The bipod is steel after all ;)

WP_20170318_18_30_59_Pro_zpscxca8j8s.jpg

The next thing was to start on the chamber. I laid out a rough pattern and then edited my CAD part to use for measurements.

WP_20170318_19_14_44_Pro_zps1bcitdka.jpg

And then I set to work machining. Below are my progress photos, but feel free to check the video out for how I did it. Note: I still have to add the castle features and I will eventually be epoxying the components together into place.

And of course I had to put it on the gun to see just how it looks, and man dies it look pretty. Can't wait to get the castle features finished on this beauty!

Also in other news, I finally got myself a decent 3D printer! It's a JGAURORA (you can get it on Amazon), and I will be using it to print my battle rifle over the next week or so. I've got 2Kg of ABS so hopefully that will be enough.

WP_20170313_23_52_16_Pro_zpsrjek9mju.jpg

I've begun modelling in the purchased components and modifying the Battle Rifle to accept the parts.

Battle%20Rifle%20Start_zpsbagsmfgr.png

And I have begun printing the sight.

Ok, that's it for this update! I will be trying to take a lot more footage for you guys as I continue to machine parts. Stay tuned!

God damn that thing must weigh a ton! it looks fantastic though! here's hoping for the halo 5 AR with all the addons and sights next!

It's a heavy pig haha. But it'll be so worth it.
I have started on the Halo 4 Assault Rifle, so after the Halo 4 Battle Rifle is done printing, I will finish that design. So unfortunately the Halo 5 model is not on the chopping block.

Ohhhhhh man that looks incredible. Will you be painting or not?

I will be anodizing the aluminum for the body in a dark gray and the steel in black oxide. The bolt carrier will be clear anodized (so it stays the silver color). And I will be coating the scope in rubber so it will be a nice soft matte black. Once that's all done, then I will go back in and weather the gun with some paint and then seal it.

I was hoping you were going to anodize it! This thing is going to look amazing.

Got another short update for this week!

So the short of it is:
I opened the front chamber hole to accept the OD of the main outer barrel.
My shapeways stuff arrived, so I'm gunna check those out for fitting.
I finally managed to get my 3D printer settings right and had my first good pull.
I should be starting to print the rest of the BR soon (I'm just wrapping up the design stuff now).

So now for some pics.

It's great to be able to hold this thing in it's full length. It's pretty heavy, and it's only going to get worse haha. But it's looking pretty sweet!

WP_20170323_13_44_40_Pro_zpszhyyebxr.jpg

The shapeways components arrived. I just wanted a nice pair of the piston guides, and I got the magazine hammer sintered out of steel.
WP_20170323_20_08_30_Pro_zps9dnt0vvd.jpg

The printer took some troubleshooting to get a good print off. The left was a first run that got severely warped, the right was a successful pull.

WP_20170323_15_09_36_Pro_zps2txnd1jd.jpg

There's still some cleanup as the walls for the weaver rail started to fall inwards.

Otherwise, I'm wrapping up my design work on the BR body so I can print it to accept the purchased components.
SS%20A_zpss92dqqw5.png

I still need to model in the hop unit, trigger mechanism, and some stuff for the custom magazine. In addition, I will be installing an ammo counter thanks to the help of thatdecade (I installed one on my original build almost 5 years ago). The prints will probably take about two solid weeks to complete as the below print estimate is approx. 40 hours.

As for the internals, I intend to use a V3 gearbox since there's a cage and I will not have to fiddle with alignment.
WP_20170323_20_07_17_Pro_zpsyemjzv8i.jpg

The projects keep chugging along and I will make sure to update with photos as soon as I get something done!

Hey guys! I've got some eye candy and some physical updates today!

So more or less, I've finished the design for the Battle Rifle (renders at the end). Also, I've started printing the larger components for the Battle Rifle. The first of approx. 12 large prints has begun. The first buttstock piece turned out pretty nicely. I decided to switch to PLA since ABS was causing too much trouble in my large prints. Here's some progress pics:

I will still need to shave out some features internally which I had anticipated. But overall it turned out very well. I have started the next piece forward to finish the buttstock which should be done Friday morning. This was a 43hour print, so I am expecting to be done in a couple of weeks. I should be doing some more machining on the SR as well as the weeks roll on.

But for now, here are some renders of the Battle Rifle so you can get an idea on the component layout. it will have a custom mid-cap magazine so I should be able to run this gun with multiple magazines. I have also received the components for making the ammunition counters.

preview2_zpslhyiucty.jpg
Render1_zpszmutpxlx.jpg

The only things I have really yet to model are the charging handle and the fire selectors. But this should be good to go for the time being. Anyways, stay tuned for more pics as the prints roll in.

Wait, how the hell does the magazine work on the BR?

The short of it is I am using a custom midcap. So, because the body is so thin, there's really no good way to fit in a purchased midcap.
If you look at the top of the magazine, you can see the spout for the bb's to be loaded/dispensed to the hopup.
1_zpswhvqiy3a.png

Here's a cutaway so you can see the basics.
2_zps25jl5aej.png

Since I need to clear the gearbox and get the bb's forward into the hopup, the magazine had to be inserted at an angle. Since the mag is inserted at an angle, I had to make an adapter (the small gray piece in the center) to depress the catch on the magazine and allow bb's to be fed into the hop which has a vertical inlet.
3_zpsuskpz74j.png

Obviously, a handful of bb's will never make it into the hopup, but that's the price to pay for having a dope airsoft gun haha!
4_zpsy3f7lasu.png

Anyways, here are some progress updates for the BR. It's coming along pretty well. The pieces are starting to look like the actual prop which is super exciting. The parts are more or less ready to be sanded (I'm going to reprint the center piece as it peeled at the corners a little too much for my liking). Once I finish printing each side, I will glue them together and then finish them/fill in the gaps with bondo and make sure all of the parts fit. Once each half is solid, then I'll make molds so I can cast copies in solid plastic! And then, once I have finished copies, I will install the ammo counter and the illuminated sight and the rest of the internal components.

Have to stop myself from drooling all over the keyboard
Is there any space left to install a soundboard in the BR?
