Could've sworn I'd posted a reply in this thread near the beginning (or maybe another similar thread I'm thinking of, lol), but anyway...
Been a Gundam fan for a pretty long time, ever since I first got into Anime back in high school. Watched a few of the series (Wing, Seed), but like others here I'd have to say my fave is 08th MS Team. I think the RX-79-G Ground Type Gundam is just the kewlest, heh.
I think it's a perfect mix of in-the-field durability/functionality and still looks bad-@$$.
That's the one I'd love to Pep and scale to my size as a wearable costume. Some of my like-minded Anime friends would flip out if they saw something like that, lol.
I'm trying to get the model I have of it broken up and unfolded.
That is the type-37. aha!
The GM is a severe cost-cutter.
The Ground Combat is made of spare parts thats were intended for the Gundam. Feddies were surprised at it's output and Combat ability. So they threw it on the Frontlines, intended for special teams only though. I like the Desert and Cold Climate versions myself. They look like they have clothes on under their armor. Yea, I like my Mechanics Manuals.
I found him on FB and tried to add him, but I have to get a reply. MY avatar is the same.
While the GM is a cost-cutter, it wasn't a prototype, and by real-world logic, should have functioned better than the Gundam prototypes, being as it was produced with the kinks worked out. But, the Gundam Ground Type was essentially a prototype, made of a GM[G] frame with Gundam components.
Note its similarities to:
The only differences are the slightly modified legs, cod, and the upper chest and head.
This leads me to believe the Gundam [G] was made from the frame of a GM[G], using leftover mechanical parts - servos, reactor backups, sensors, and what have you - from the Project V Gundam. More expensive, more specialized, but more effective than a GM[G] or a GM, but less capable of combat than the RX-78 Gundam series, due to being cheaper to build than the prototypes.
In the end, the GM[G] and Gundam [G] were considered too costly to justify the modest increase in overall efficacy over the stock GM. After the One Year War, they were mostly decommissioned and scrapped, in favor of the GM. Later, even that would be outmoded, as the design of mobile suits shifted from bulky, armored monocoque-frame machines, to lighter-weight movable-frame suits. The shining examples of this are the ReZel and the ReGZ.
Back to the -79[G], I, too, thought the Desert Ops equip was cool. Shows they were thinking about operation in harsh environments when they designed the machine.
