Donden, after reading how you seem to be lost as to how to navigate the forums, take a look at this:

Also, I would HIGHLY recommend you slow down on that double posting. If you have multiple questions, try to ask them all in one comment if you have them all on your mind. Don't ask one question per comment and make multiple comments. The moderators may come after you. Just a warning.

To edit a comment, click on edit post under your post. Then click on "Go Advanced". Edit your post as you need to, then click on save. Done. :p

This site is a little confusing to navigate at first, but after some time you'll get the hang of it and know where to find the information you're looking for. If it helps, click on the "Forum" button at the very top of the page (between "Home" and "Blogs"), and use that as your starting point if you get lost. There are several forums, but probably the most useful are the Noob forum (this one, which you found), the Creation Discussion forum, and the Elite forum.

It's highly suggested that you start in the Noob forum, and read all of the "Sticky" threads (the ones at the very top of the 1st page). These essentially cover all the information you need to at least get started. Then, the Sticky threads in the Creation Discussion forum have a little more advanced information. Finally, the Elite forum showcases very talented people creating incredible armor suits and props, that you can use as inspiration and motivation.

Be warned, as a Noob, you can only create new threads in the Noon forum. Once you post enough, you will have the ability to create new threads in the other forums.

Finally, let me say that doing your research and reading and soaking up as much information as possible is probably the best thing you can do when starting out. Many people (myself included) were able to successfully start building armor using the information on here, and without creating threads or asking basic questions. The members of the forum are generally very friendly and willing to help, but we're not here to spoon-feed you the information you need. You need to take some initiative and try to figure things out on your own.

Good luck! Now go read, create some armor using Pepakura, and create your very own build thread so we can follow along with your progress and help you out if needed! :)

Edit: Ok, HaloGoddess seems to have pretty much covered everything already! lol

One last question for now. Can you use pepaukra on mac computers?
Ok i went to a store and found bondo filler. Now do i need the filler with hardener or will just the filler work?

I can't help ya with the "pepakura on mac" issue, but I can help you with the other part.

The Bondo brand body filler is used as the FINAL touch on your stuff. It helps to make it smooth and get rid of sharp, jagged corners and also helps if your piece warped a bit from hardening it. As for the hardener part, the body filler I bought came with a seperate tube of the cream hardener and it had to be mixed in. I didn't know that the stuff came with the hardener already mixed in. :confused Either way, you need the hardener whether it comes pre-mixed or if you have to mix it yourself. The stuff won't harden without it.

Thank You i found out u have to have windows to operate pepakura
are their any videos on youtube where it shows pple making a helmet. bc i learn easier visiually.
So I went looking for wausau index paper and cant find it had to order it offline. Any hints to what stores do carry it for when i might need more?

OK I hope this might help with some of your questions.

Card stock 110lbs weight can be bought at staples or any business supply store...even at wall mart.
Auto motive body filler or Bondo can be bought anywhere you buy auto parts...it does require a hardening agent so you do have to mix it.
Polyester resin is used to stiffen the paper before you fiberglass or rondo the part to harden it.

As for you metal question...it is possible to make a suit out of sheet metal with a mig welder if you go slow and take your time. And you could even do it with a tig welder. It's no different then doing body work on your car. The down side is the weight even with aluminum it would be heavy and hot. But it can be done.

If you need any more help on stuff feel free to pm me and I'll do my best to help.

So Now i need some polyester resin, can that be bought from walmart?

did you try calling them and asking? or look on their website? im sure they can help you if you called them. i usually buy all the stuff i need at Canadian Tire.

The resin should be close by the bondo at wal mart.

Now that I've used smoothcast 320, I would recommend it as well though. It's so much easier and less of a mess. It does cost a bit more (gal. for $91), but it saves time and mess.

I think you are confused. Fiberglass is like a cloth material that gives strength when you apply resin. Resin is also called polyester resin. Both of these materials can be purchased online. The Wal-Mart in my area only sells the resin, and usually they are small cans. I've never seen fiberglass in Wal-Mart.

I was told to buy the fiberglass resin that is sold at walmart which turns out to be polyurethane (Fiberglass) Resin. I still need to get the fiberglass cloth, So if i already have the fiberglass resin do i need to buy the polyester resin as well?

I think we are repeating what is already in one of the stickies. There is no sub thing as fiberglass resin. You may have heard it because whoever told you is referring to combining fiberglass and resin together. You will need the resin and fiberglass both if you plan to use the old ways of strengthen the armor. Today most members prefer rondo (mixing bond and resin together). This way you skip the fiberglass. Others prefer the smoothcast liquid plastic. Please try to read the stickies. They will tell you alot more that what we can tell you here.

I have bought the fiberglass resin. It is marked as polyurethane fiberglass resin for car repair. Is this not the same as the polyester resin? Where is the fiber glass cloth at in walmart? I think one of you said you got it from there... So I reread the list and the resin is fiberglass resin but you are saying i need fiberglass cloth. If that is what you are trying to tell me than thank you, I am not trying to confuse anyone (or myself mostly)

Fiberglass resin and polyester resin are the same thing. I think someone got mixed up. Polyester is a material made out of plastic fibers. Polyurethane creates plastic. Same deal.

Basically, all of the stickies will tell you everything you need to know. If you read http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/25298-LongShot-X-s-Mark-VI-HD-MJOLNIR-Armor-WIP from start to finish, you will know how to make a costume.
Read all the stickies. One tells you in picture format exactly what items you need to buy. Only ask questions if you've searched for about six hours and still haven't found it. Think of everyone that's been there as being like a bus driver. There's sixty kids on the bus, and one by one, they keep asking "Are we there yet?" Even though the last few are asking the question for the first time, the bus driver still has answered the question before and gets irritated.

Really. Read the stickies. If you have a basic question, then you haven't looked long enough.
