would it have been better to paper mache the inside, just so you wouldnt lose the detail that pepakura gives you?

and i would definitely go with the hot glue method! its cheap and easy to do, or even superglue. that's what i always use :)

Edit: my comp didn't show me the other posts.. hence this stupid post from me. sorry!

I have used Paper Mache and still using it. No one uses it because it has a good amount of problems, but thats only for first-timers. I practiced and a test pep that didn't fit me, then work on my ODST armor. There are a couple good threads on paper mache, but not as much as fiberglass resin. I would say that if your poor (me too) or low budget, paper mache is the way to go.

that's all folks

looks a lot better than my first, which latter was doused in gasoline and burned (i need to protect the world from my monstrosity). I probably would have stayed away from tape but its interesting to see someone attempt to tackle the challenge.

oooOOOooOOoooo.......Flaming helmet.

Next time, if your using paper mache,
use it on the inside of the pep.
that way the details won't be gone.
Just something from my experince.
:)

My Dear TKanaAmaterasu,
It seems you realized your folly as soon as you finished up papermache-ing but it's okay. Learning is a lifetime process. I think it's pretty neat that you had the courage to still share your lost love's labor with us.
Thank you

p.s. I smiled real big when I saw your pics. Very cute.
P.P.S. Your's is by far the most Japanese sounding non-japanese name I've ever seen.

You can sand the paper mache , but you need to use a little size.
How do you glue your paper?

It's not a really bad helmet I think , we can see the basic helmet , maybe some work and it will look really nice.

Just use this build as your prototype for your next helmet. I echo the previous statement about getting a hot glue gun. They are really inexpensive and they dry so quick it makes glueing pepakura much easier. That way you can avoid the tape route next time. I'd sy finish up the helmet, take a photo when it's done. Then build another of the same thing again, I guarantee you will be amazed at the leaps and strides you will make with only a second build. But good luck finishing it!

i was tempted too. But i nearly knackered my dad's printer by printing onto card and the library printer is just useless. I may have another go at some point

Definitely don't give up. Your helmet was looking very good for a first attempt. If you decide to have another go, we will be more than happy to help you in any way that we can. :)

your ps and pps made me chuckle there. They aint that cute, LOL but thanks anyway lol
Its because I am a fan of the game Okami and Amaterasu is like the full name or something. Okami Amaterasu :D

Thanks very much. I am definately going to carry this helmet out to the end. and touch it up. I didn't know you could sand mache. I am actually attempting to put up videos of my progress on youtube but it seems they aint very popular :( LOL

I haven't been on in a while. Had another project on the go and still haven't redone the helmet for fear of breaking my printer cartridges with the card, hopefully will start it again soon

Here is something of my other project. My 2012 Assassin.

what a fatty LOL

Just a quick question, Need to do the helmet again. This time with superglue. Anyone tell me how to print off the pepakura with the lines rather than the numbers because everytime I print, I only get numbers that show. Driving me mad! XD

You're using designer when you try this right? If not then get it and once you're into it you'll find what you're looking for in the setting.

Let me know if this helped you.

Thanks infantryman. I am using superglue now. I was successful with the mache last time but this time I am to mache the inside of the mask to keep it's shape and see what can be done from there :D

I figured it out. Was hiding in the print and paper settings the whole time! Been working on it all afternoon thanks XD
