Team CA glue checking in. It's a strong bond if the mating surface is flush and it's set within ten seconds which lends to building things quickly.
Yup I agree with turbo, 5 sec CA glue is awesome. It's strong and fast to work with especially on parts that may be set in under tension. It will hold them in quick. Just backing your seams with hot glue or my preference shoe goo is necessary. Hot glue sets up pretty quick. Shoe goo requirea a process as it takes 24 hours to fully cure. Just message me for my techniques on the shoe goo if you decide this route.

Isn't that also what people use kwik seal for, or is that for just looks?

Ok so looks like a contact adhesive is the way to go then. Any suggestions on a brand? I was thinking gorilla glue version.

Also if you can’t tell I’m really excited about wanting to build this armor but it is driving me nuts that I have to wait a week and a half before I could start.
I've had very great luck with loctite 5 second glue. Remember not to use to much. Just enough to get a good bond. "Less is more"

barge is a good one to get as the cap is screw on so it is easily sealable, and the cap has a built in brush so it is easy to apply. only problem with this is it is sometimes messy if your not careful and you can glue the cap shut. I usually just pick up a can from harbor freight. they are all pretty similar in wise of adhesive so don't loose sleep over it :)

I use DAP weldwood or similar for contact cement. People have said it isn't as good, but I haven't noticed anything at all wrong with it.

That being said I've recently jumped on the 5 second glue band-wagon and am a big fan.

Sometimes though, it pays to be multi purpose and use more than one kind of adhesive.

The only issue I've ever had with the DAP or LePage stuff is it's tendency to separate over time. Always make sure to mix your product before use is basically the best possible advice for any adhesive, resin or paint.

Even the mighty Barge cement will separate over time. Just shake or stir the can or bottle, whichever is applicable, and you'll be fine.

So about ready to order my materials, but I need last minute conformation on what thickness foam to get. I currently have half inch foam in my amazon cart but I read that thread on suggested foam thickness and it seemed that people were suggesting 8-10mm for thickness. So is it better to go thinner and layer or go thicker and carve into? Also any recommendations on brand name for foam? That freight place was mentioned a lot but I don't have one near me, I have an ace, Home Depot, Michaels, Joans, or amazon to get my materials from.

Once this is figured out I can go ahead and order materials. Glad my summer job starts next week as this project is looking more than the 60 dollars I initially thought.

As always thanks for all the help so far.

It's all preference really. Me personally I love 12mm. I feel I get the deepest most dramatic detail with it plus its very sturdy and lends to the armor feeling like and looking like heavy armor. I use it mostly for everything because I layer most of my detail in. That said, I do lightly use 10mm 5mm 2mm and 1mm craft foam rarely for things here and there. Once your skill develops, you'll understand what I mean by being able to layer all your detail in with the ticker foam with seam work. I do all my precise small detail work mostly with my build out using 12mm

Two packs of these will likely be enough for an ODST and a prop of some sort.
Gold’s Gym 24-Sq Ft 6-Piece High-Impact EVA Foam Puzzle Exercise Mat - Walmart.com

I like working in 10mm, 5mm and 2mm foams personally but I always go back to the puzzle mats when I need something big, cheap and quick!

From there you just need your tools, adhesives and paint!

it really does depend on the project. if you are making armor, 1/4th inch is perfect, and thiner foams are good too. if you are making something ike a br, three inch foam is perfect. anything smaller than 5mm is usually for detainling rather than structure. its just preference :D
