so i been sanding a good part of the morning instead of working lol, and it feels pretty darn smooth, but there may be a few lumps , is there a way to see if the surface i am sanding is level?
Looking good so far Braytak! Yeah, you can spray the helmet with gray primer so that you'll have a uniform color. Then you can see the imperfections. The chest looks a tad big but then again it's not completely assembled yet so I'll wait and see. Other than that, your pep work looks great and keep up the good work bro!
and i can bondo over the primer?, if the chest is i will either modd the side pieces so its a tighter fit or start over with foam.
Yeah, you can bondo over the primer again after sanding until you get your desired results. Then repeat as necessary. I was thinking the same thing about your chest, just adjust the length of the sides and you're probably good to go.
this is looking good you seem to be the first person ever to make the chest the right size
ok so here is my chest piece, now that i am done i am thinking its to big , i cant really put my arms straight down, what do you guys think,

Well this is just my two cents, I love the helmet and would like to know how you scaled it. The chest, since it is paper(someone correct me if i'm wrong) couldnt you just splice at the bottom and bring the pieces together? just curious? I mean after hardening it you have to cut it anyway and strap right? At the bottom rib sections, remove a piece from both sides to bring the bottom back together and it should fit? Eh just an idea i'd hat to see great work thrown away because of a minor resize.![]()
Nice work so far braytak!! Something you can do with Bondo that can make the sanding easier is to shape it with a surform when it gets to the hardness of cheddar cheese; you can still get it pretty smooth that way, then fill with a thin coat once fully hardened. It can really save on the sanding on thicker sections. The most toxic thing with Bondo is the dust kicked up in the sanding. Many people develope a sensitivity to it much like some hardwoods when woodworking. Good luck on the build!
