Thanks a lot, dude! And I didn't even have any Mountain Dew to help me on the way. But thanks for your enthusiasm, I really appreciate it. I just wanted feedback, but I guess that, if enough people like the file (I personally think it's pretty cool), we can have someone unfold it for us.

If any of you guys see any major/minor flaws in the model, please alert me and I can update it. (I'm mostly worried about the overall angles and proportions as opposed to minute details). Also, because I only knew one view in the reference picture, feel free to post if you have a better reference or just knowledge about it (especially about the back - where your shoulder fits - or the middle floating piece). Also, does anyone know whether this piece is perfectly symmetrical on both sides? I just assumed so, but I could have been wrong.

Lastly, if any areas in the model (specificly the ... transitional areas ... between plates on the shoulder plate) seem too small or too difficult to fold, I can always make the faces bigger. I was just trying to be accurate. Remember, it's all for fun.

Nightshade, you are a freakin hero man. I really appreciate that you took the time to make a 3D model of the shoulder pieces. You will get so much credit for this. You are the first to make a 3D model of the new ODST shoulders. :not worthy:

Really though, those models are amazing.

Nightshade, that is a phenomenal way to introduce yourself to the site. Very nice work on that model. I can't wait to see more from you now.

Well, there's the new shoulder. I believe that little piece on the elbow can be added on to the existing forearm with a little scratch material, so this should do it unless someone wants to tackle the helmet add-ons from the concept art.

Wow! People are so nice around here. No wonder there are 13000+ members. City Static, thanks SO much for the compliments. Serisouly, as a total noob, I didn't plan on getting any of those. I don't know if just making a 3D model really makes me a hero, but I sure like the sound of it! I'm really glad you like the models, and I hope that's kind of part of what you were looking for.

And Malechei, wow, now I'm getting compliments from almost-staff-ish members. I'm glad you're looking forward to any new models. I know I am! I knew it was a pretty good model, but I never thought it to be phenominal. (Or did you just mean my few posts in general?) Anyway, thanks a ton!

Also, has anyone seen THIS picture? Should I try to model those big funky almost-radar-looking plates on that guy's shoulder armor? It would sure make for an interesting paint job. I think I could somehow connect those to the main model. I just can't tell which pieces they're attatched to.

Thanks for the feedback! Keep it coming!

Nice job ... looking forward to see more 3d models of yours ... keep'em comin !!!
I would guess that the big plate is more like a shield ... since the artwork show that he carries communication device,
Protect COM if you don't want to loose support !!! lol
It would be a great addition ... i'm shure many of us would craft it just for the simple fact that : Yay a new piece of gear !!! hehe

OMG! ADAM I LOVE YOU! Woah, ok, anyway thanks for still paying attention to us noobs (well, looks like I'm no longer in that crowd). I thought it would take a few hundred posts to achieve that honor. Serisouly, thanks a lot, Adam

And PhilzZ, thanks for the compliments and for believing in a noob.

PS - Does this mean I can post in the Creation Discussion forums??

Looks pretty good so far; my only comment would be that the flat part on the upper shoulder plate (the almost "U" shape) should be a flat plane, your model looks like it's concave. A pretty quick fix.

Other than that very good work!

It's normal ... i'm a 405th Noob ... and still learning my way aroud the forums .... Too much information at once ... lol

Seriously ... it's great work you do ... now Do us the Big armor plate ... ( kidding ... or not .. hehe )

"almost-staff-ish"... .haha, I love it.

Tell you what, tackle a couple more projects and show us what you got, and I'll see if we can't get you a feature in The Source. If you're other work is half as good as that shoulder piece, you've got a heck of a future here. Welcome.

EDIT: OH and, that big funky shoulder piece looks like something I might have used once. Some snipers, when they can't set up a full hide for some reason (such as they're at a vehicle check-point or whatever), will instead reinforce what little armor they have. Because of the length of the rifles, if the shooter is going to fire while standing, he will sometimes turn to the side, where most traditional body armor doesn't have very much protection (sometimes none at all). Putting a large plate on your arm allows for the most protection while firing from a standing position. That's what it looks like to me. It doesn't appear to be going into the final version unless I missed something in the trailer and all the concept art, but it would be kinda fun to build. Especially since my armor is leaning more towards mimicking Romeo everyday.

Thanks! I really appreciate any feedback concerning any flaws in the model. I really spent a lot of time making sure that areas on the model (multiple polygons) remained as one flat face. It was just a bit difficult because, although they were flat, they were still at an angle. I had to pull out all the faces, flatten them, rotate them and then rescale them. It was a bit tedious. Anyway, thanks for pointing out that flaw. You did mean THIS face, right? It's still flat in Pepakura. I'll get on that (unless I'm too tempted to first model those sweet sniper plates!). Again, thanks for ur support

Hehe I know, the forum can be pretty overwhelming sometimes, especially when you're first visiting it. I've been snooping around for a year, and some of it still confuzes me. I think one thing that might discourage noobs is the fact that there are so many talented artists and craftsmen whose work is so amazing, it sometimes discourages the noobs. I would know. It still happens to me. To anyone wanting to learn how to make armor, see thier work as something you can learn from. Don't let its awesomeness discourage you from making your own. Who knows, it might turn out better than theirs! By "the Big armor plate," do you mean the front chest-piece? That doesn't look too hard. I may go for it, just to see how it turns out.

Malechei, OMG I would probably spend a whole week staying up modeling if I could just get a chance at that honor. It's a little hard going from ORGANIC models (*clicky* -- I finished that recently, although there are some proportional flaws) to hard-edged armor, especially because armor models have holes and openings and such. Anyway, I'm surprised the shoulder plates turned out that well. I hope I have the same luck on future models. Also, thanks a lot for the great explaination of why those "big funky shoulder piece" ... I never thought of that. I think you're right in saying that that version of the shoulder will not be featured in the game, but I agree that it would be fun to build (if I can find an effective way of modeling them so they aren't completely closed in -- as in, the undersides not having faces totally covering them. It's hard to glue pep models if they don't have openings in them). I never expected this much positive attention on my second day as a member, but I appreciate your support (and everyone elses)

NOW LET'S GET THIS PIECE UNFOLDED!

Well, it's really good timing on your part. The feature that I was talking about is something that the editors have been talking about as a possibility. It would be showcasing the work of some of our more outstanding new members. I'm pretty sure that the idea was to have a new article with each site update. I'll definitely put your name in as a subject if the idea takes off. It's not often that Adam goes out of his way to promote a noob. Congrats.

Indeed. Couldn't agree more.

- Thanks a lot! I just thought it best to join after I had a bit of experience, as opposed to a noob asking people to do things for him without offering anything in return (cough cough). I'm amazed at how welcome the members here have made me feel. And thanks for saying you liked the model!

That sounds like a great idea! I would definitely appreciate just mentioning me if the article becomes a reality. I'm still amazed that Adam promoted me so quickly. I'd appreciate the fact that he still looks out for the newcomers. And thanks for the congrats. I appreciate it.

Oh sweet, I didn't even notice that. Any member from my area is definitely an improvement to the site in my book! That's cool that we're that close
