After a bit of googling, I found something that should be next to perfect for this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=IgWu-VmOZHo

An Out-the-front switchblade. If someone could figure out how these work, it should be easy to make that into a larger, assassin's creed blade that goes in and out :D

EDIT: I've devised a way to make a centripetal force-based knife, but it's made so that the knife doesn't fly in and out when you move around, by using a locking mechanism. I'll get pics up later.

EDIT2: Video of it in use is uploaded, just waiting for processing

EDIT3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w4rBspaW9Y

I must of missed this before.
Anyway, as far as blueprints, I found mine at a free patents' site. Had to join to download the drawings though. I'm still trying to figure out how to make it into three parts. PM.

Well I'm not sure if these will help you, and I was going to wait till I got my plans done to release the link but...FreePatentsOnline.com - Automatic Opening and Closing Knife
The plans for it are in a .pdf on that page, but you need to login to get them. Don't worry it's free to register.

Anyone could of found these prior, but I figured I'd be helpful and point them out.

Why not just make two "handles", One large, and one slightly smaller, and replace the blade in the first one with the smaller handle, then work it out so the switch on the smaller handle is triggered by the in and out movement of the larger one?

That's what I intend to do, but fitting it all in a neat little package is proving very tough. My 3D design WILL work, but whether I'll be able to actually make is another problem entirely. The enemy here is size. I don't want some huge box on my arm.

Because this works by inertia generated by one string to overcome the other spring, you will also probably need to watch the weight of the blade.

Yeah there's a lot of varibles here. Also, I just realize that I misread something when I looked at those drawings again. The sheaths are sort of upside down on my model now. Not a big problem, but I felt like such an idiot when I saw what I had missed earlier.

Just had a look at the blueprints. Very interesting design. shouldn't be too hard to emulate though. Especially if you're using a lightweight blade like a plastic one.

If I can make the springs strong enough, I won't have to worry about weight. Since I'll probably be making this from scratch parts, I will probably replace the coil springs with some custom made flat springs. Another reason for that is I don't believe they had coil springs back in 1191 AD. Trying to make it as close to the game as possible, but still be functional.

Also, for aesthetic purposes, I need some better screen shots of the casing open and closed. I've been all over the interent looking, and the best ones are in videos. Those shots however are quick and limit view of the underside of the arm. The in-game model looks much different than the concept art in this topic. Those that manage to get the best pictures for me, may get a sneak peek at my progress. I'll limit it to the first two people that get me a decent view of the blade that's not already on the internet.

I usually just browse the halo universe and general talk forums, but I cant beleive I missed this! Assassins creed is one of my favorite games ever and i have attempted to make this for awhile now. What I did was use a Kitchen Knife and legos, But sadly my brother took it apart to build a SPACESHIP. It wasnt all that gr8 neway. Im looking forward to making a true assassins blade.

This would work with a Tai Chi sword with the blade that shoots out.

But I'm gonna use LEGO Technic pieces and a plastic blade, like Shadowgodny(I think, lol) of YouTube.

So anyone wanna see a progress pic? Sure you do.

Keep in mind I'm still working out sizing, mechanics, and cosmetics, but I made it shiny. ;)

Initial design should be done before the end of the year, hopefully.

hey very nice there cant wait to c it done, im replying in school so shhhh! lol

NO PROBLEM, hehe. Just kidding with you.

I was wondering to all that are still interested, do you think I should just go ahead and start a new topic with my design or just keep it in this one?

make a new topic and make it really good with lots of detail and instructions. remember to keep us all posted though!

Hey guys this is my first post and I felt I had to post this here, anyways I don't mean to hijack this thread but the OPs original idea inspired me to make a hidden blade from a drawer slide and this blade I had that looks absolutely perfect.(Don't worry it looks sharp ut is EXTREMELY dull).
So here are my pics...

this is it on my table fully retracted and very compact.

Well there it is. So far that is all I have but I still need to figure out how to make it shoot out and in. I will try to understand that patent that was posted for the OFT blade but they were very confusing to me. Tell me if you guys have any ideas. Thanks.
