Sean Anwalt....Dude.....looks like Walt Disney exploded all over you work table

great job so far....just agreeing w/ everyone thus far about magnets. Covered but not too much and 1 magnet w/ a contact opposite....and that could be covered depending on how thick the covering foam and how strong the pull is on the magnets.

He did.

Celebratory test fit! WOOT WOOT!

Chest fits ok! These magnets are working well, but I am going to need more, since this thing is held on at the bottom only by duct tape.

I also have the little chest details as well. But I'll put those in another post since this is the celebratory post.

For the details on the side of the chest, I don't have a 3D printer, so I had to use my bare hands. I sat there got AGES! 'What to do, what to do, what to do...' and then I realized there was only one thing for it. EVA foam. (Going through the exact same thought process about the center lower chest piece right now...)

So this is how I did it:

I cut a popsicle stick width of foam with beveled out edges 1.5 inches long (3.81 cm for you imperial weirdies) and then another strip which was then cut in half lengthwise before being cut to half inch lengths.

Then, using a brand new scalpel blade i cautiously cut out a carefully measured detail slit dealio 1/8 in from one end.

Looked like that ^.

Next I aligned everything and cemented it to a base layer of 2mm foam (the most handy thing in the world). Then I cemented everything very carefully together.

AND IT FIT TOGETHER PERFECTLY SQUARE! You all see that!

Then I took them into the wind storm outside and primed them.

Next step is to paint them, and then attach them!

Big day so far. Whatcha all think?

Very cool Sean Anwalt......just an observation....the arm holes: It looks as though you have to keep your arms elevated to keep from pinching the foam sides. They look a little small.

I am going to go back over the arm holes, make them round, and cover them with black 2mm foam. I actually can put my arms down further than that, but not a lot. I'm still tweaking the thing.

But you're right, they are a little small.

In other news, I've ordered some cheap number stickers from the internets, and will be printing the SPARTAN logo at about 2" so I can add them to the paint job. Then a black wash, and sealing the paint up! Yaaaay!

He did.

Looking pretty rad my dude. What's the final colour scheme going to be? Are you going to be adding any fun personal emblems or anything like that?

Keep up the good work been looking to do a spartan build myself and after seeing this im going to do it as my next build cant wait to see how the rest of it turns out good luck :)

I'm going with that olive color, maybe some highlights of another color, probably red, and Just the numbers and SPARTAN emblem.

Dude, it's really not hard, just time consuming. It'll be great to see how yours turns out!

Small update:

Painted the detail thingies

Now to attach them. After work.

EDIT: Now that I've posted that... I have only applied one hurried coat of paint, so I will be re-painting them before I get them attached. Hey, if any wealthy members of the community want to donate some money so I can purchase an airbrush, let me know...

HEY, whoa, whoa, now! Let's not place financial burdens on these upstanding and generous folks! And also go get your own thread! I tell you what, some people's kids! Really, have I Never! The nerve!
Hey now. You're talking to a card carrying member of Fireteam Off the Rails here. .. Well... No. Not really.
Besides.... I think I'm older than you.
Cut your POOR sempai some slack here.

I DO WHAT I WANT!

...Maybe we should set up some sort of charity or something.

AAAANNNNYYYWWWAAAYYY.... Back to the build. I am going to need some help with the electronics. Electricity has always been magic to me, and if I'm going to get the lights in this thing, I need to figure some stuff out. Is there a simple way to create light diffusers with simple clear plastic? I intent to study up on the subject after work, but kinda need a direction to go.

Yep.

Any sort of clear plastic that's been fogged up in some way will work like a champ. I use 3D printed clear stuff to get exact shapes that slot in to place and be foggy in one go but you can easily use PETG from pop bottles that's been lightly sanded. The big trick for diffusion though is figuring out the distance where you have the light from the LED covering the entire surface of the material to minimize making it look like just a point source of light. GEK HRRRK GRRRK RRRK most common LEDs they have a beam angle listed on the datasheet and using some simple math to figure out the distance away from the plastic your LED has to be.
