Hey guys, I just went to Halopedia to check out the UNSC ranks, and I came up with this for how to go about doing the ranks for members of the 405th. It goes as follows:
Master Chief- Adam
Senior Chief- Link
Chief- All the Global Mods
Petty Officer(s) 1st Class - Members of Veteran Status with a set of quality of armor
Petty Officer(s) 2nd Class- Members of... Member status with a set of quality armor
Petty Officer(s) 3rd Class- Members of Noob Status with a set of quality armor
Crewman- Members of Veteran Status without a set of armor
Crewman Apprentice- Members of... Member status without a set of armor
Crewman Recruit- Members of Noob Statur without a set of armor

This is just what I thought up for ranks in the 405th, it may need some revisions added. If you would like to add anything to this, be my guest, I just designed this as a rough copy for you guys to think about and branch off on, and thoughts and inputs will be accepted. - Ice

What if we are quality people and we don't have armor?
That is kind of saying, "You dont have armor, so you get a sucky rank!"

And this is for Adam and Sean Bradley if they decide to make up a new
rank system.

...shadow8136, if you think you have ADD get tested for it.
And I take offence to your avitar because I have ADHD and most people dont go crazy
like in your avitar, they just cant focus.

They just said a few post back that they used a rank system similar to that in the past but didn't like the fact that people were posting just to raise there rank.

good grief... this is a forum to help people make armour. what purpose could "ranks" possibly have?

heh!

"I'm a level 12 costume maker, and you're only a 9, so I win the argument!" :p

"Look Mom, I ranked up, I can haz flabbegas rezuns nao?"

"Chicks dig high ranking armorers, someday I'm gona make it to level 50!"

It's a costume site guys, not a game. The only time you get the "Achievement Unlocked" is that first time you put on a full suit of armor you made yourself and feel a swell of pride.'

We tried ranks before and they didn't work, the whole site became a spamfest.

I agree with Sean and NZ-TK, ranks are worthless, maybe as someone said before, cant remember who and I dont wanna look because Im lazy, we should have medals, like on our profile page, it could say, completed pep armor, and have a little medal with two scissors crossed or something. Kinda sounds fun.

Well what about having a symbol or medal for each set of armor that a person can prove they’ve made. That way we'll spam armor instead of posts.
Seriously though a symbol for a completed set would be nice.

I don't think any Medals or Ranks are necessary, This forum is good how it is right now :).

I honestly have to agree with Sean...what would be the point of having a ranking system? Benefits? Perks? I can tell you you're not going to be ordering me around at a con. The only people that do that are the ones who sign my paycheck and my fiance haha. I mean let us be realistic....other than being able to take your friends to the site and saying "ooooh see guys I'm a (insert rank)" there's honestly nothing else you'd be able to do. So just let it go and let it experience a nice quiet death.

As for the 405 club you need ranks Wile the 501 The peps in charge get all set up for you to go to the con and have fun. With out the Leaders typs you are out there with out support. I we do not get tables at Dragon Con with out Leaders.

As for rank this is from the 501 Article IV - Offices

A. Two forms of offices exist within the Legion: command and administrative. Command offices exist to oversee the organization and deployment of troops and to set and enforce policy. Command offices include the Legion Commanding Officer (LCO), Legion Executive Officer (LXO), Garrison Commanders (CO), Garrison Executive Officers (XO), Squad Leaders (SLDR), Outpost Leaders (OL), and Detachment Leaders (DL). Administrative offices (AO) exist to perform the administrative duties required by the club and are appointed by the Legion Commander within a Legion Administrative Staff, by Garrison Commanders within a Garrison Administrative Staff, and so on. Legion Administrative Officers also sit on the Legion Council and are allowed to vote. The Administrative Offices are listed below. Administrative offices are appointed by the LCO and selections must be ratified by the Legion Council by simple majority. If a candidate for an administrative office is not ratified, the LCO must make new selections until the candidate is ratified by the Council.

With the new direction we are taking ranks within the 405th are completely necessary. I made that comment long before we had goals set as an organization or a true need for organizational structure beyond the confines of this website. To organize as a group and to coordinate events we'll need an organizational structure.

Thats a purpose that facilitates the goals of the website.. to help us become recognized as a professional costuming group.

I just wanted someone in this thread to define why this is necessary..

And no, it won't be based on your post count. ;)

I think there's some confusion here between Ranks and Positions..

They're separate because the Positions are going to be either on a voting rotation or by appointment, and not a reflection of attaining rank. This means that if someone is in-charge of a unit, but get's voted-out, they fall back and become part of that unit as a regular member.

It's not a punishment, by any means, it just allows pro-active and popular members to move into Positions where they can do the most good for the club. The previous position holders are still eligible to get back into that position, or other ones, at a later date, or take a breather and continue on where they're most comfortable. Members have very little to do, in terms of duties outside of events, but Position holders can be very busy people, attempting to maintain the club, and/or get it into postion for future events, every one is a volunteer.

As far as member ranks go.. we might have SOMETHING, but I can't see it being used for anything other than for order during drills at events (which I really hope we do), or role-play stuff. It could be based on participation and merely reflect how active you've been in the club, but as far as "Hey private! go get my slippers!" it ain't happening. We aren't a military group, we're just a costume club that is ordered in a similar fashion to be as effective as possible at doing what the group, as a whole, wants the group to do.. Organization of volunteers. :)

The Position folks will need to be followed if the club is to function though. That shouldn't be TOO hard to figure out, and again, those orders are in terms of trying to keep order.. ("Hey, quit punching that guy! we're trying to look official here"), not to maintain command pressure ("You eyeballing me son?!","Stand at attention and guard that bucket until I releive you.. there better not be ANY water missing when I return!") unless it's part of a skit or something that you volunteered to participate in.

It shouldn't be too hard to follow the postion folks though.. Kinda' like listening to the Mods in the forum, except even easier because most of them will have been folks that your unit has voted to put in there, or appointed by someone your unit voted for. Heck, there's even a system being designed that ensures position folks don't abuse their postions.

Other than that, there's just following basic rules, being respectful of others, and participating, as long as you're doing that, noone's going to tell you to do anything.
